Yao Shen

Prof. Yao Shen received a B.S. degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tsinghua University and earned his M.S. (1999) and Ph.D. (2004) degrees from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University. Since joining the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2005, Professor Shen has served as a faculty member and was promoted to full professor in 2012 and tenured in 2022. Currently, Prof. Shen serves as an Editorial Advisory Board Member for the International Journal of Plasticity (IJP). His primary research fields encompass micro/mesoscale mechanical mechanisms, dislocation dynamics and crystal plasticity, with specific emphasis on micro-deformation mechanisms of metallic materials, and multi-scale modeling of materials behaviors under extreme conditions including irradiation and chock loading. To date, Professor Shen has published more than 110 research papers in prestigious international journals, including Physical Review Letters, International Journal of Plasticity, Acta Materialia, Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, and Scripta Materialia, etc.
