PubMed consists of three biomedical and life sciences databases: MEDLINE, PMC and Bookshelf. MEDLINE is the life sciences journal citation and abstract database of the US National Library of Medicine (NLM). MEDLINE content is indexed with the NLM's Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) thesaurus. Embase is also a life sciences journal citation and abstract database from Elsevier with more comprehensive content than MEDLINE. Embase has approximately 18 million more records than MEDLINE. Embase includes conferences, MEDLINE does not. Embase has more coverage of journals outside the US than MEDLINE, and Embase has approximately 70,000 more preferred terms indexed than MEDLINE.
