You can submit as many abstracts to the conference for review as you would like. If, after the review by the committee, you have more than one paper accepted for the conference, you will need to register to attend and pay an additional paper fee for each additional paper (i.e., for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th papers – not the 1st). Please note this is for papers that you are the presenting author of, not papers that you are co-author of.

Successfully submitted abstracts will be acknowledged with an electronic receipt including an abstract reference number, which should be quoted in all correspondence. Allow at least 2 hours for your receipt to be returned to you.

Workshops

Workshop A

16:15-17:45 Tuesday, 17 June, 2025

Fundamentals of sensory and consumer science and their applications in future foods studies. Speakers: Hye-Soeng Lee, Ciarán Forde

The workshop is designed to:

• Explain the role of sensory and consumer science within the food science discipline, with a focus on its significance for future food development.

• Guide participants on selecting appropriate sensory and consumer science methodologies tailored to their research objectives.

By addressing these key topics, the workshop aims to bridge the gap between food engineering and consumer-centric innovation, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and enhancing the impact of future food research.

Workshop B

16:15-17:45 Tuesday, 17 June, 2025

Getting started on interdisciplinary research: an introduction to consortium project proposal design Speaker: Oscar van Vliet

We will work on designing research proposals to generate impact on society. This is especially important for demand-driven research that requires for consortia to work with stakeholders on finding solutions to real-world problems, for example thematic calls like in Horizon Europe pillar 2.

In the brief theoretical sections, we discuss theory of change, and how that connects to broader issue management and science communication. To make this concrete and useable for you, we do some exercises on how to read a funding call, writing up your theory of change, finding your role(s) as a researcher, and how to put this into a proposal.

This workshop is aimed at early- or mid-researchers who want to work in consortia to address real-world problems. Participants are encouraged to come to the workshop with their own research ideas and/or actual thematic funding calls that they want to work on. We will mostly use Horizon Europe 2025 calls as examples, but also calls opened in Asia, e.g. Japan, Singapore, China, Australia and/or India.
