14:10 | 14:40 | The Place of Pure at Macquarie University: The Heart of a High Performing Research Ecosystem Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia turned 60 years old in 2024. As a relatively young research intensive institution, we are committed to world leading research with world changing impact. We have worked hard over the last decade to ensure that our research ecosystem—including investment, infrastructure, systems and services—is fit for purpose and enables the success, influence and social value of our research enterprise and researchers. Pure sits at the heart of our ecosystem. We were one of the first universities in Australia to adopt Pure and we have embedded it very successfully throughout our research lifecycle. In this presentation I share Macquarie’s reasons for adopting Pure and our journey so far, especially in creating a single source of research truth for the institution. I describe the components of our increasingly unified system and the value it has delivered for researchers, research leaders and the University overall, particularly in supporting evidenced-based decision making. I acknowledge the challenges we have faced in technical and cultural adoption of Pure and how we overcame these. Finally, I point to the next frontiers of our Pure implementation, in partnership with Elsevier and other stakeholders and collaborators in the higher education sector and beyond, which will allow us to fully manage, track, understand and invest in research at Macquarie University. This talk will be presented by Amanda Barnier but co-authored with Semira Dautovic, Director, Research Performance and Development, Macquarie University. 15:00 | 15:30 | Expanding institutional knowledge and deepening performance insights with Pure A comprehensive and robust research information management system (RIMS) must take care of, first and foremost, the quality, uniformity, and useability of data arising of research activities. These data often come from different sources, and in all sorts of formats and flavours. They also impact users with varying degrees of domain knowledge, technical and analytical skills, and professional interests. The ultimate goal of a successful implementation of any RIMS, however, is to become a trusted platform that all stakeholders look up to for research excellence assessment and showcasing of achievements.Dr Lloyd has had experiences implementing Pure across institutions of vastly different background and research focus. She will show how Pure can be embraced not only as a data platform that extends well beyond the traditional repository boundary, but also a single source of truth that empowers institutional activities and initiatives. She will also share her thoughts on ways to improve user engagement and to drive a data-driven culture across the institution. Dr. Alison Elizabeth Lloyd Associate Provost (Institutional Data and Research) The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology |
15:30 | 16:00 | Core of University Data: Strengthening Research Development Strategies at NCKU through "Research NCKU!" National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) is committed to promoting the digitization of academic development. Through the establishment and application of the "Research NCKU!" Pure platform, the university has built international research connections and collaboration networks, actively attracting top international experts and scholars. Additionally, by analyzing research data, NCKU can effectively motivate and retain outstanding talent. As the main portal for publicly accessible research information within the university, the "Research NCKU!" Pure platform connects multiple data platforms, facilitating the formation of interdisciplinary teams among faculty and researchers for in-depth collaboration, thereby expanding the impact of sustainable interdisciplinary efforts. The Office of Research and Development, as a driving force for research advancement, continuously seeks innovation within the existing framework and proposes forward-looking administrative strategies to achieve breakthroughs in the ever-challenging higher education environment.
