J.M. Gorman is currently an independent consultant in the mechanical engineering field, specializing in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and numerical simulation. In addition to teaching as an adjunct professor, he is also a part of several startup companies and consulting projects ranging from biomedical and automotive to atmospheric modeling and heat recovery systems. After receiving his doctorate at the University of Minnesota in 2014, he was a research associate at the University of Minnesota until 2020. Prior to that, he received an MS and BS in mechanical engineering from the University of St. Thomas. His research encompasses all facets of mechanical engineering, and his teaching is focused on modeling and numerical simulation in the thermal sciences. He has published over 60 papers in archival journals, along with multiple book chapters. He has also served as a serial editor of Advances in Heat Transfer and the Advances in Numerical Heat Transfer book series.
