Fábio M. DaMatta is an agronomist who earned his D.Sc. degree in Plant Physiology in 1995 from the Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil, where he is currently a Full Professor in the Plant Biology Department. He is the author or co-author of more than 200 research articles and book chapters, most of which focus on the ecophysiology of the coffee tree. Over the course of his career, he has supervised approximately 50 postgraduate students and 11 postdoctoral researchers.
Prof. DaMatta has served as a consulting member of the Brazilian Consortium for Coffee Research and Development (1998–2010), Editor-in-Chief of the former Brazilian Journal of Plant Physiology (2006–2008), and coordinator of the leading Latin American Graduate Program in Plant Physiology at the Federal University of Viçosa (2008–2023). He participates in multiple research networks and is an associate editor for several prominent journals in plant physiology and agriculture.
