Elsevier Global Research Cultures Advisory Board
Improving inclusion in scientific and health research globally.

The science and healthcare communities are working to solve the world’s most pressing problems, from combatting global pandemics to addressing climate change, to advance human progress. This happens best when every member of the science and healthcare communities makes their mark.
Our goal is to enhance participation and inclusion in scientific and health research across a range of dimensions including gender and geography, to help progress go further and benefit all. We aim to ensure that research is conducted and reported in the most inclusive and sustainable manner possible thereby improving its quality, impact and global reach. We also aim to improve the relevance and applicability of tools which support scientists, researchers and health professionals, by mitigating inherent bias and ensuring robustness and inclusivity in their development and application.
Through our Global Research Cultures Advisory Board, we resolve to:
Work with research leaders, funding bodies and higher education institutions to enable inclusion across science disciplines, and in particular, in health equity, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) academic career paths
Work with academics, publishers, and funders to promote greater inclusion and a range of perspectives in editorial boards, peer review and scientific conferences while supporting research publication, inclusive participation in research and health
Promote best practices to help foster inclusive future generations of healthcare andSTEM graduates
Encourage enhanced sex and gender-based analysis and reporting in research studies, as well as other dimensions relevant to specific research areas
Work with our network of stakeholders to promote health equity and inclusive cultures in the communities we serve
The Board mission
The mission of the Board is to contribute to a more inclusive and balanced research ecosystem by:
Supporting initiatives that facilitate a culture of inclusion and sustainability in the academic research ecosystem.
Helping set standards and best practices that drive unbiased, robust decisions incorporating a range of perspectives and best-practices in research and health.
Facilitating inclusive representation in research funding, editorial boards, peer review and scientific conferences and ensuring that research is conducted and reported in the most inclusive manner possible to improve research quality, promote health equity and make a positive impact on society.
