Materials Today Rising Star Awards

The Materials Today Rising Star Awards recognize early career researchers in the fields of materials science and engineering. Launched by the Materials Today Family of journals in 2018, the Awards are presented to those who have demonstrated exceptional potential to make a real impact and become future leaders in the materials science and engineering fields. The 2025 Awards will be sponsored by five of the Materials Today journals – Materials Today, Materials Today Bio, Materials Today Catalysis, Materials Today Energy, and Materials Today Quantum. There are nine Awards available spread over five categories:

  • Biomaterials: Two Awards sponsored by Materials Today and Materials Today Bio

  • Energy Conversion & Storage: Three Awards sponsored by Materials Today, Materials Today Energy, and Materials Today Catalysis

  • Materials Data Science & AI: One Award sponsored by Materials Today

  • Sustainability: One Award sponsored by Materials Today

  • Quantum Materials & Electronics: Two Awards sponsored by Materials Today and Materials Today Quantum

Nomination guidelines

Nominations for the 2025 Materials Today Rising Star Awards are now open. Completed nomination forms must be submitted by July 31st, 2025.

To be eligible for consideration, applications should have completed their PhD within the past 10 years.

Judging and prizes

The judging panels for the 2025 Awards consist of editors from the five sponsoring journals. These editors will evaluate all eligible candidates based on the impact of their research and their contributions to the materials community.

Each winner will receive an honorarium of $1,000 USD.
