Authors can publish gold open access in the majority of Elsevier’s journals, including fully open access journals and hybrid journals (journals which offer both subscription and open access options). HHMI funds can only be used for Article Publishing Charge (APC) payments in fully OA journals. Where authors wish to publish gold open access in hybrid journals, they will be asked to agree to pay an APC at the point of submission. As HHMI funds cannot be used to support these APCs, authors should check whether these articles may be eligible under transformative agreements. If authors (or their organizations) are unable to fund these fees, they should contact Elsevier to discuss their options.
