Dr. Eric Hoek is a professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a faculty scientist in the Energy Storage & Distributed Resources Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Prof. Hoekโ€™s research explores the union of membrane technologies, nanomaterials and electrochemistry for water, energy and environmental applications. Since beginning his career in academia, he has advised (or co-advised) 31 postdoctoral researchers and 35 Ph.D. students. Prof. Hoek, his advisees and collaborators have published over 170 ISI peer-reviewed journal articles, 20 U.S. patents, and two books on Sustainable Desalination and Water Reuse and Oil & Gas Produced Water Management. He is also co-Editor-in-Chief of the John Wiley & Sons Encyclopedia of Membrane Science & Technology, former Associate Editor of the Elsevier journal Desalination, and founding and former Editor-in-Chief of the Nature journal npj Clean Water. Dr Hoek has also co-founded a number of successful technology companies and serves as an adviser to several other technology companies, investment funds and non-profits.
