Catia Algieri

Institute on Membrane Technology, National Research Council of Italy (ITMJ-CNR), Italy

Dr. Catia Algieri is a Senior Researcher at the Institute on Membrane Technology (ITM) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), where she has been conducting scientific research since 2001. She holds a Master’s degree in Chemistry and has over twenty years of experience in membrane science and engineering, with internationally recognized expertise in membrane fabrication, physicochemical characterization, and advanced membrane-based separation processes. Her research focuses on the development of innovative inorganic, polymeric, and hybrid membranes for high-impact applications, including wastewater treatment, water desalination, gas separation, photocatalytic membrane reactors, catalytic membrane systems, and controlled drug delivery. A major part of her scientific activity is devoted to sustainable environmental remediation, with particular emphasis on the removal of emerging contaminants, pharmaceuticals, dyes, and heavy metals from water streams, addressing key global challenges such as water scarcity, climate change adaptation, circular economy, and environmental protection. Dr. Algieri has produced more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications, including articles in high-impact international journals, book chapters, and contributions to authoritative encyclopedias in the field of membrane science and technology. Her scientific output is widely cited at the international level, with an h-index of 26 (Scopus) and 30 (Google Scholar), reflecting the relevance and continuity of her contributions to membrane engineering and environmental technologies. She is the inventor of a granted Italian national patent and co-inventor of recent patent applications focused on advanced membrane materials and functionalized systems. Dr. Algieri has been actively involved in numerous national, European, and international research projects, frequently serving as Principal Investigator, scientific coordinator, or responsible unit leader. Her project portfolio includes major EU-funded initiatives (Horizon Europe, PRIMA, MSCA), national strategic programs (PNRR, PRIN, PON), and collaborative projects with academic institutions and industrial partners worldwide. Deeply engaged in the international scientific community, Dr. Algieri serves as a reviewer for European research projects, a member of scientific and organizing committees of international conferences, and an Editorial Board Member and

Associate Editor of international peer-reviewed journals. She is also a frequent invited and keynote speaker at international conferences and workshops. She has extensive experience in the supervision of undergraduate students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and research fellows, and regularly acts as an external evaluator for doctoral defenses, research grants, and scientific recruitment procedures. Her scientific excellence has been formally recognized by the Italian National Scientific Habilitation (ASN), which awarded her the qualification as Full Professor in Chemical Foundations of Technologies.
