June 18, 2025

Please briefly describe who you are and your role.

I am Dr. Devi Prasad Mohapatra, Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at JIPMER, Puducherry which is a leading medical college and tertiary care academic institute in India. I am also a faculty in the department of medical education at our Institute. As a surgeon, educator, and researcher, I am deeply engaged in clinical practice, surgical training, and academic development. My work spans complex reconstructive procedures, resident mentoring, and development of educational resources for plastic surgeons as well as postgraduate trainees.

What problems were you attempting to solve when you started using ClinicalKey?

In my dual role as a clinician and educator, I constantly require updated, evidence-based information. I needed a reliable and comprehensive resource that would support quick clinical decision-making at the bedside while also serving as a strong academic reference for teaching and research. Prior to using ClinicalKey, searching and accessing quality full-text literature and surgical reference materials was often fragmented and time-consuming.

From your point of view, what are the biggest benefits you found in using ClinicalKey in your day-to-day routine?

ClinicalKey has become my go-to platform for both clinical and academic needs. I can instantly access standard textbooks in plastic surgery, high-impact journal articles, procedure videos, clinical guidelines, and patient education handouts. It saves time during my post rounds discussions, especially when explaining rare conditions to students or referencing operative techniques. The ability to cross search books, journals, and multimedia from a single interface enhances efficiency and confidence in my clinical decisions.

What’s the primary reason you would recommend ClinicalKey?

The user-friendly interface and mobile accessibility make it ideal for use in busy clinical settings. Its seamless integration of textbooks, journals, videos, and clinical summaries into one platform makes ClinicalKey indispensable. Whether preparing for a surgical procedure, conducting a journal club, or delivering a lecture, the content is authoritative, updated, and easily navigable. I often recommend it to residents as a trusted academic companion.

Is it important in your daily clinical activity to have access to diagnostic support tools?

Absolutely! In surgical specialties like plastic and reconstructive surgery, and Burns management, diagnostic clarity often drives treatment planning. The point-of-care tools and differential diagnosis support available through ClinicalKey helps me streamline decision-making and reduce uncertainty. Having access to guidelines, clinical overviews, and references directly impacts patient outcomes and enhances student training.

What benefits have you encountered since using the ClinicalKey app?

The ClinicalKey app has extended my access beyond the hospital and office. Whether I’m in the surgeons’ lounge, or reviewing cases at home, I can quickly retrieve references or share content with colleagues and residents. Offline access to key materials, including eBooks and saved searches, is particularly helpful in resource-constrained environments. It truly supports learning and teaching on the go. It has facilitated developing academic resources for my students too.
