MaryKay Orgill (FRSC, ACSF)is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where she develops and deploys qualitative methodologies to examine and improve undergraduate chemistry and biochemistry teaching and learning. She is a leading contributor to research about the use of systems thinking approaches in chemistry education. These approaches have been shown to support students’ understanding of scientific concepts, motivation to learn science, and ability to think critically about the complex challenges we face as a global society, such as planetary sustainability.
