Mary Dawood RN. BSc (Hons)MSc PGDip, is a Consultant Nurse in the Emergency Directorate at Imperial College Healthcare Trust London and Honorary Lecturer Imperial College London. In addition to her nursing qualifications Mary holds a BSc (hons) in Social Science and an MSc in Medical Sociology. As a Consultant Nurse, Mary has pursued both an academic and clinical career and has a high profile in emergency nursing in the UK.
Her current post enables her to maintain frequent clinical contact with patients while also supporting and developing the skills of others in particular, nurses, paramedics and other allied health professionals undertaking Master’s programmes in advanced practice in emergency care.
Mary holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning in Healthcare and is registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Lecturer/Practice Educator
She is a co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of Emergency Nursing now in its 3rd edition and has also written and edited the Emergency Practitioner Handbook (Informa UK LTD). She is an Associate Editor of Emergency Medicine Journal (BMJ Publishing Group) and frequently reviews academic papers for International Emergency Nursing (Elsevier), and Emergency Medicine Journal.(BMJ Publishing). On a more global level she is a member of the international editorial advisory board of the Australasian Journal of Emergency Nursing. She is interested in many aspects of emergency care and has published numerous papers on the subject of emergency nursing. As an associate editor of EMJ she writes the Primary Survey for the journal twice a year. Mary is an established speaker and has frequently presented at conferences both nationally and internationally and has been a keynote speaker at both nursing and medical conferences.
