Laurent Karim Béland, P.Eng., PhD

Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Queen’s University, Kingston, ON, Canada.

Prof. Béland focuses on nuclear materials modeling across multiple length and time scales, with expertise in irradiation defect dynamics, accelerated atomistic simulation methods, and machine-learning interatomic potentials. He has published more than 85 peer-reviewed papers and leads several multi-institutional projects on materials performance in nuclear energy systems. Before joining Queen’s in 2018, he earned his PhD in solid-state physics at Université de Montréal and held postdoctoral appointments at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and MIT.
