Luuk Terbeek

Luuk Terbeek is strategic advisor for digital transformation in education at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He specializes in blended learning and artificial intelligence in education. He initiated and is lead author of the AI Maturity in Education Scan (AIMES). AIMES helps students, teachers, program directors, and faculty board members assess and advance their AI literacy.

He chaired AI in Education working groups at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam and has led national and international projects on teacher professional development and AI literacy. As Program Manager for AI and Data Research at Npuls (a national program involving 100+ Dutch tertiary education institutions) he promotes meaningful change in education through the effective use of AI and data.

For his new book project, Unsettled: Global Perspectives on AI in Education (expected to be published in 2027), he interviewed forty experts from around the world. Drawing on their perspectives, Unsettled offers valuable insights at a time when certainties are shifting and existing answers may prove inadequate. The book helps its readers formulate an appropriate response to the opportunities and threats that AI presents for education, regardless of their role or the educational sector.
