Sanjiv Sharma

University of Liverpool, UK and NIMHANS, India

Dr Sanjiv Sharma is Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer in Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Resistance) at the University of Liverpool and a Senior Research Fellow (Pratiksha Trust) at NIMHANS, Bengaluru. Trained as an analytical chemist (PhD, University of Amsterdam/CSIR India), he has since developed into a bioengineer specialising in low-cost, AI-assisted point-of-care and wearable biosensors, molecularly imprinted polymers, microneedle technologies, and transdermal drug delivery. His translational research programme spans antimicrobial resistance, therapeutic drug monitoring, and infectious disease diagnostics — including dementia diagnostics, where his SMART-NeuroDx platform applies AI-assisted molecularly imprinted polymer sensors to Alzheimer's and neurodegeneration biomarkers — taking platforms from bench to first-in-human evaluation and global health deployment, with funding from the Wellcome Trust, MRC, NIHR and DSTL. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers (h-index 28, ~4,000 citations) and holds patents in AI-assisted biosensing. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, holds a Chevening Technology Fellowship, and serves on the Royal Society's Newton International Fellowships Committee and the UKRI Interdisciplinary Assessment College.
