John Vontas is the Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology - FORTH and Professor at the Agricultural University of Athens, Greece. His research focus on biotechnology based approaches for the control of disease vectors and agricultural pests, with emphasis on the molecular mechanisms by which insects develop resistance to insecticides. He has published over 250 papers and gave many invited talks worldwide. He has supervised >25 PhD students and many post doc researchers, many of whom pursue careers in academia and industry. He is Associate Editor in Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology. He is panel member in the ERC since 2021.

He has received major grants from Industry, Gates Foundation and Horizon Europe (http://www.nextgenbiopest.eu; http://www.microbiopest.eu).
