Jian Lu

Prof. Jian LU is a Senior Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study, Chair Professor and Dean of the College of Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK); President of HK-MRS. He was elected as an academician by the National Academy of Technologies of France in 2011. He was appointed as a Vice-President (Research &Technology) and Dean of graduate study at the CityUHK from 2013 to 2020. Professor LU’s primary research interest is advanced structural and functional nanomaterials and its integration in mechanical, energy and biomedical systems. He has also branched out into several other areas of interest including additive manufacturing, surface science and engineering, biomechanics, residual stresses. He has published more than 550 SCI journal papers including papers in Nature (cover story), Science, Nature Materials, Nature Chemistry, Nature Water, Nature Communications, Science Advances, Materials Today, Advanced Materials, PRL, JACS and his research works are cited more than 50K times. He received the French Knight of the National Order of Merit and French Knight of the National Order of Légion d’Honneur in 2006 & 2017 respectively. He was elected as an academician by the National Academy of Technologies of France in 2011. He received the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award from the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2018.
