Associate Professor Amorn Petsom, PhD, has served as the Director of the Office of Academic Resources at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand since 2015. Embracing a forward-thinking vision of 'Reinventing the Library,' he has modernized the library to meet international standards, focusing on smart technology and sustainable growth.

Many remarkable projects have succeeded under his guidance. Initially, the iThesis platform, launched as a thesis submission platform, has been adopted by over 20 universities in Thailand. Following this, the CUIR received the Core Trust Seal certification, ensuring the sustainability of the service. In terms of smart technology, he innovates the unmanned library called “Chula Ultimate X Library” as a fully automated library that can be managed remotely anywhere.

Dr. Petsom devotes the library to sustainability. Success can be recognized through the international awards and certifications, for instance, ISO9001:2015 for quality management, ISO14001:2015 for environmental management, ISO45001:2018 for occupational health and safety, and TLA’s Green Library Award and Thailand Excellent Library Award.

Recognizing the growing importance of artificial intelligence usage and literacy in higher education, he initiates a library service called "AIX" aimed at providing students and staff with experience in artificial intelligence.

He also established “Chula Digiverse,” a platform to aggregate, distribute, and preserve digital information using the recognized Open Archival Information System (OAIS) model to ensure the sustainability and long-term access to digital information.

To support the sustainability of the library operation, Dr. Petsom prioritizes staff development. He encourages reskilling and upskilling through numerous activities, including scholarships for master’s and doctoral study and staff-exchange programs.

His visionary leadership has not only transformed a century-old library into a smart library but have also laid the foundation for its sustainable growth.
