Alexander Opitz

Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minnesota

Alexander Opitz is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, where his laboratory studies the physical and physiological mechanisms of non-invasive brain stimulation. His research spans electric-field modeling, cellular and circuit neurophysiology, stimulation technology, and human neuroscience.

Dr. Opitz’s work has connected computational predictions of stimulation dose with direct measurements of electric fields and neural responses in animals and humans. This integration of physics and physiology has provided a foundation for rational dosing and for emerging individualized and closed-loop approaches to precision neuromodulation.
