Description
Metabolic Engineering is devoted to publishing original research on the targeted improvement of cellular properties or metabolite
production via manipulation of specific metabolic or signal transduction pathways. The journal will carry articles on the introduction
of pathways or enzymes to produce novel compounds in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems. Strategies for altering the regulation
of biochemical pathways and cellular processes will also be presented.
Metabolic Engineering presents a unique opportunity
to publish recent findings on bioinformatics and functional genomics as they impact our understanding of the properties of biological
systems. Research papers delineating quantitative descriptions of biological networks and the regulation of biological processes such
as signal transduction are welcome. The journal will describe experimental, computational, and modeling approaches to understanding metabolic
pathways, including manipulations at the genetic or environmental level.
Efficient probing of metabolic and signal transduction
pathways draws upon techniques from the fields of molecular biology and biochemistry, as well as modeling and data analysis tools from
engineering. Metabolic Engineering will provide a forum for communicating such interdisciplinary research.
Research Areas include:
• Metabolic Control Analysis • Biological Transport • Computer Simulation • Genetics & Genetic
Engineering • Nuclear Magnetic Resonance • Biotechnology • Algorithms • Bioinformatics •
Biological Networks • Biomedical Engineering • Enzyme Kinetics • Pathway Engineering • Signal Transduction
