“Elsevier talks up output informatics for academia”

Nick Fowler, Elsevier’s Director of Strategy, outlines how Elsevier’s expertise in measuring journal and article usage enables us to develop new services for academia as a key way to evaluate a university’s research output. Fowler sees scientific research driving the need for informatics in academia. “Science is a long-term growth industry,” he said.

Sponsored by Elsevier, six young Chinese journalists are the winners of the 2007 AAAS Fellowship for Science Reporters in Developing Regions bringing science writers to the AAAS External link  Annual Meeting in February 2007. "Elsevier would like to help equip science journalists from all over the world with the necessary skills and insights in order to write accurate 'good science' articles that benefit their communities," said Shira Tabachnikoff, the publisher's director of Corporate Relations.

Elsevier, in collaboration with Librarians Without Borders, awarded an $80,000 grant to the Medical Library Association to train librarians in the African, Asian and Latin American continents. "Local training has proven to increase usage of the research and I am confident that this program in conjunction with MLA will provide better access to HINARI/AGORA/OARE for the researchers and students in developing countries" commented Tony McSean, Elsevier's Director of Library Relations.
