Areas of Expertise: Impact of web concepts and technologies in the STM publishing industry
Ammy Vogtlander currently serves as Vice President of Web Strategy and Business. She is responsible for identifying opportunities related to new Web concepts and technologies which influence scientific publishing. With a deep understanding of online publishing and information retrieval processes, she is a regular speaker at industry conferences. Ammy has a strong interest in how new web concepts and collaborative models can improve and facilitate knowledge sharing and dissemination in online communities. As part of her role, Ammy sets strategic direction for Elsevier globally with the key content aggregators and distributors, such as web search engines and ebook sellers.
Ammy brings to Elsevier more than 15 years of international experience in strategy and product management and software and business development in the media industry. She joined Elsevier in 2002 and has held several senior positions at Elsevier, including Director of Search and General Manager of Scirus. In 2007, she left Elsevier for a three year sabbatical to launch BlueInsights, developing a knowledge platform for health professionals.
Before joining Elsevier, Ammy worked as a Senior Strategy Consultant at Dutch consulting firm Boer & Croon, helping clients to develop and implement Internet strategies. Ammy started her career as Principal Consultant at AMS, an American IT consultancy, where she served as a project manager and senior architect working on large-scale billing and customer care projects for telecom operators in the US, Europe and the Middle East. Ammy holds a MSc in Physics from the University of Groningen. She conducted her final research in the field of pattern recognition and is excited to see this technology applied in today's web services to the benefit of customers.
