Emilie has been a major contributor to debates on issues facing scientific publishing. She has served as a panellist on open debates about alternative publishing models at Harvard and Brandeis Universities and on the publishing ethics panel at the 2006 Annual Meeting of the Council of Science Editors. She also is frequently asked to give talks at universities on the editorial process. Dr Andrew Plume is Associate Director – Scientometrics & Market Analysis in Research & Academic Relations at Elsevier, specializing in scientometrics (the scientific qualification and analysis of science). Through accumulating a broad spectrum of data that ranges from specific primary sources such as authors and single articles to the broadest data resources generated from countries and entire subject domains, Andrew studies information flows in the scholarly literature by analyzing patterns of publications and citations. His particular interest lies in the use (and abuse) of the Impact Factor and the emergence of alternative metrics for journal evaluation. Alicia Wise, Director of Universal Access

Alicia holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, and worked as an academic archaeologist. Next she joined the UK Joint Information Systems Committee to manage national negotiations for access to a broad array of intellectual property and then to direct innovation programs to stimulate the creative use of information technology in universities and colleges. Alicia then moved to the publishing industry as Chief Executive of the Publishers Licensing Society which is a not-for-profit owned by publishing trade bodies to oversee collective licensing arrangements for UK publishers.
