The Official Journal of the Society for Cryobiology Subject Matter
Peer Review Policy for Cryobiology
Peer review is intended to ensure that only sound science is published. It is an objective process at the heart of scholarly publishing and is carried out by all reputable scientific journals. Our referees therefore play a vital role in maintaining the high standards of Cryobiology and all manuscripts are peer reviewed following the procedure outlined below.
Initial manuscript evaluation
The Editor first evaluates all submitted manuscripts. Manuscripts may be rejected at this stage only if they are outside the scope of the journal. For all other manuscripts the Editor selects at least 2 experts to carry out independent reviews.
Type of Peer Review
This journal employs single blind review, where the referee remains anonymous throughout the process.
How the referee is selected
Referees are matched to the paper according to their expertise.
Referee reports
Referees are asked to evaluate whether the manuscript : • is original • is methodologically sound • is interesting, • is written clearly • is of appropriate length • uses appropriate statistical methods • uses SI units • cites literature references appropriately and in the correct style
How long does the review process take?
Typically the submitted manuscript will be reviewed within 6 weeks. Should the referees' reports contradict one another a further expert opinion may be sought. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the initial referees and referees of revised manuscripts may request further revisions.
Final decision
The final decision to accept or reject a manuscript is normally made within 20 weeks but this depends to some extent upon the time taken by authors to carry out revisions. Referees advise the Editor, but the Editor is responsible for the final decision to accept or reject the article.
