Review Form
Guidelines for Action Editors
Each article will be assigned by EICs to an action editor, who
will be fully responsible for identifying reviewers, soliciting reviews,
and making recommendations to EICs as to whether to accept or reject the
article. The members of the editorial board will serve as action editors
at the request of the EICs (under normal circumstances, each member will
not be asked to handle more than two papers each year, excluding re-reviews).
The assignment of action editors will NOT be based on narrow
disciplinary boundaries.
To fully assess multidisciplinary implications, significance, and
accessibility of a submission, the action editors need to assemble an
interdisciplinary panel of reviewers. The general rule is:
Each article should be reviewed by at least two reviewers,
from at least two different disciplines.
If an article involves more than two disciplines, more
reviewers should be consulted.
Steps for action editors:
1. identify an interdisciplinary group of reviewers
2. contact the reviewers to obtain reviews
3. based on the reviews, make decision recommendations to EICs
in the form of an Action Editor's Report (which should include
all the reviews received).
Action editors should return the recommendations to EICs within 5 weeks.
Guidelines for Reviewers
Although each reviewer will comment from his/her own disciplinary background,
each reviewer should also keep in mind the inter-disciplinary nature of
this journal. In the review, please assess the potential inter-discipinary
contributions. Also assess the readability/accessibility of a submission
to a multi-disciplinary audience. Please be constructive and detailed.
Because we aim at fast turnaround time, please return the reivew within
3 weeks.
Guidelines for Special Issue Guest Editors
Cognitive Systems Research welcomes proposals for special issues
on topics of current interest or new and emerging research topics
within the general scope of the journal. Guest editors who are
interested in editing such a special issue should email a brief
proposal to the editors-in-chief. The proposal should include
background of the proposed special issue, description of the topic,
justification for the special issue, a tentative list of potential
authors, a brief description of the target audience, a brief
description of the review process to be followed, brief CV
for each of the guest editors, and a draft call for papers
(including the relevant deadlines). The proposal will be reviewed
by the editorial board of Cognitive Systems Research and their decision
will be communicated to the proposers.
If the proposal is accepted, the guest editors will be responsible
for all aspects of the special issue including: production and dissemination
of a call for papers, identifying reviewers, soliciting reviews,
selection of manuscripts for publication, and writing a guest editorial
for the special issue. To avoid any potential conflict of interest (in reality
or in appearence), manuscripts authored or coauthored by a guest editor
or one of his or her close associates should be handled by a different action
editor who does not have such a conflict of interest with the author in
question.
To fully assess multidisciplinary implications, significance, and
accessibility of a submission, the guest editors need to assemble an
interdisciplinary panel of reviewers for each manuscript.
Each manuscript should be reviewed by at least two reviewers,
from at least two different disciplines. If an article involves more
than two disciplines, additional reviewers should be consulted.
The guest editors are responsible for communicating their recommendation
on each manuscript to the editors-in-chief along with a complete
set of reviews.
