Description
The European Journal of Soil Biology

The European Journal of Soil Biology covers all aspects of fundamental and applied soil biology relating to soil microbial and faunal ecology, and processes promoted by soil organisms. Soils from managed and natural ecosystems of biomes worldwide are of interest, and the Journal is open to submissions from all parts of the world.

An important aspect for elucidating the central role of soil organisms is to study their structural and functional diversity and explore living conditions in heterogeneous biological and physico-chemical environments. Scales of study may range from soil aggregates up to landscapes. Different levels of ecosystem structure may take into account individuals, populations, communities and ecosystems themselves. Studies on relationships between prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms, the latter including soil fauna and roots with rhizospheres, are highly relevant for this Journal.

Special emphases of the Journal relate to understanding the effect of global changes and human impact due to agricultural, urban and industrial activities. In this context, studies on mitigating such changes and ameliorating soils for sustainable use and maintenance of ecological functions are most welcome.

Studies may come from different disciplines including molecular biology, genetics, eco-physiology, biogeography, and all aspects of microbial and faunal soil ecology.

Interdisciplinary approaches with aspects of soil physics and chemistry, bioinformatics, geo-statistics, modelling, or evolutionary biology are highly appreciated.

The journal willingly publishes original articles and mini-reviews. Authors intending to submit a mini-review should contact the Editor-in-Chief in advance. The major criterion for selecting articles for publication is their scientific value and a general interest for soil biologists and scientists in neighbouring fields of research.
