My research interests are varied and include classes of problems emerging in geodynamics, planetary science,
volcanology and geological fluid mechanics. My work typically involves experimental, theoretical and computational fluid dynamics as
well as field- and laboratory-based observational studies. Currently, I am particularly interested in constructing knowledge about
how mantle convection leads to volcanism, and about how observations of volcanic processes or their outcomes can be applied to constrain
the dynamics and thermal evolution of planetary interiors. I have a number of visions for PEPI that I would like to explore. One is
to attract papers addressing the coupling of mantle dynamics to surface processes including (but by no means limited to) volcanism and
climate change on various time scales. A goal of this exercise is to motivate or enhance potentially exciting links among these communities.
A second vision is to build on Jerry Schubert's efforts to expand the presence of planetary science in PEPI. |
