Peter Warwick has a M.S. in Geology from North Carolina State University (1982) and a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Kentucky (1885). His scientific and technical specialties include sedimentology, stratigraphy, coal and petroleum geology, organic petrology and geochemistry, field geology, and GIS. He has been a teacher for several years and was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the National Research Council and at the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Currently he is employed by the USGS as a geologist in the Energy Program. His experience includes coal- and gas-related research, exploration, and resource assessments in sedimentary basins in the U.S.A., and in the coal- and gas-bearing basins of Armenia, Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan, and Poland. His current research focus is on coal geology and coalbed methane resources in the Gulf Coastal Plain and the Powder River basin in the U.S.A. He is also a member of the USGS World Energy Team for South Asia. He is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Geological Society of America (current First Vice-Chair of the Coal Geology Division), Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM), The Society of Organic Petrology (current Treasurer/Secretary and Membership Committee Chair).
