K. Schwalbe, Anemonenweg 32, D-21360 Vögelsen/Lüneburg, GermanyProfessor Schwalbe graduated from the University of Karlsruhe with a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1965 and a Ph.D in 1969.
He continued at the University, tutoring students and carrying out research into fatigue and fracture mechanics, until 1974. He then
joined the German Aerospace Establishment in Kön before moving to GKSS-Forschungszentrum in Geesthacht as Head of the fracture group
in 1979. Since 1982 Professor Schwalbe has been Director of the Institute of Materials Research at GKSS-Forschungszentrum, Professor
at Ruhr University, Bochum and at Technical University, Hamburg. His research work centers around standardization of fracture mechanics
testing; structural analysis; micromechanics of multiphase materials; behaviour of mismatched welded joints; stress corrosion cracking;
creep crack growth. Professor Schwalbe is also Chairman of several fracture committees. |
