E. Chimenti, Aero Eng. & Eng. Mechanical Dept., Iowa State University, 2019 Black engineering, Ames, IA 50011-3042, USADale Chimenti holds joint positions as Professor in Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics and senior scientist in the NDE Center. Dr Chimenti earned the MS and PhD in Physics from Cornell University and a BA (Magna cum Laude) from Cornell College. He has done research on transport properties of metals and worked for two years as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the University of Tuebingen, Germany, where he investigated the current-induced resistive state in superconductors. At the Air Force Materials Lab in Dayton, Dr Chimenti performed in-house research and managed the Air Force's Advanced NDE Technology Program for eight years. He also chaired the international TTCP (DoD) Panel on NDE from 1986 to 89. In 1989 he became Research Professor in Materials Science and Engineering and Associate Director of the Center for NDE at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. In 1993 he moved to Iowa State, serving as Director of the FAA-Center for Aviation Systems Reliability until 9/94. Dr Chimenti has published over 120 papers in the research literature and has served as co-editor of the "Review of Progress in Quantitative NDE" since 1981, the year of its first commercial publication. In addition to his duties with NDT&E International, he serves on the Technical Editorial Board of the Journal of NDE and on the International Advisory Board of Ultrasonics. He is a member of the American Physical Society, the Acoustical Society of America, the IEEE, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineering.
