Guide for Authors
EDITORIAL GUIDANCE
The first issue of the Journal of Anxiety Disorders appeared in the Winter of 1987. Since that time there
has been a veritable explosion in the number of articles submitted to this Journal on the anxiety disorders for a variety of afflicted
populations. Over the years, our editorial policy has been inclusive, in that we have accepted clinical cases, single case research designs,
clinical outcome studies, theoretical expositions, critical reviews, and analogue studies. Over the last several years we have seen an
exponential increase in the number of analogue studies submitted to us. Many of the studies have been excellent examples of controlled
research, making theoretical points that have clinical implications. However, others have only been very minor variations on repetitive
themes, failing to advance the field in any meaningful way. Therefore, given somewhat limited journal space, in the future we will be
somewhat more stringent with respect to our acceptance of analogue research studies. We will continue to accept them, but there will
be the expectation that tight experimental control is evinced and that the study will move the field forward. Simple replications and
minor variations of previously published research will no longer be accepted for publication. As Editors we trust that our readers, contributors,
and referees will understand.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
All manuscripts must be submitted through the Elsevier Editorial System (EES) online submission and review site for the
Journal
of Anxiety Disorders
( http://ees.elsevier.com/anxdis). Authors are requested to submit the text, tables, and artwork
in electronic form (but not as a PDF) at this address.
Submission items include a cover letter (save as a separate file for upload)
requesting review and possible publication; the letter must also state that the manuscript has not been previously published and has
not been submitted elsewhere for publication; the manuscript (including title page, abstract, manuscript text, references, and table/figure
legends), tables, and figures. Revised manuscripts should also be accompanied by a unique file (separate from the covering letter) with
responses to reviewers' comments. The preferred order of files is as follows: cover letter, response to reviews (revised manuscripts
only), manuscript file(s), table(s), figure(s). Files should be labeled with appropriate and descriptive file names (e.g., SmithText.doc,
Fig1.eps, Table3.doc). Upload text, tables, and graphics as separate files. Do not import figures or tables into the text document and do not upload your text as a PDF. Complete instructions for electronic artwork submission can be found on the EES site above.
Please supply the corresponding author's complete contact information (telephone numbers, fax numbers and e-mail address) on the
title page. This individual will receive editorial correspondence from the Editor.
Manuscripts submitted will be reviewed by
at least two editorial consultants. Papers accepted for Journal of Anxiety Disorders may not be published elsewhere in any language
without written permission from the author(s) and publisher. Upon acceptance for publication, the author(s) must complete a Transfer
of Copyright Agreement form.
STYLE AND REFERENCES: Manuscripts should be carefully prepared using the Publication Manual
of the American Psychological Association, 5th ed., 1994. The manuscript file should include all textual material (text, references,
figure captions, etc.) and separate illustration files. Allow ample margins and type DOUBLE-SPACED throughout; use the wrap-around end-of-line
feature, i.e., no returns at the end of each line. All textual elements should begin flush left; no paragraph indents. Place two returns
after each element such as title, headings, paragraphs, and figure and table call-outs. The reference section must be DOUBLE-SPACED and
all works cited must be listed. Do not use abbreviations of journal titles and incomplete information.
TITLE PAGE: The title
page should list (1) the article; (2) the authors; names, degrees, and affiliations at the time the work was conducted; (3) a concise
running title; (4) an unnumbered footnote giving address for reprint requests and correspondence; and (5) four to six keywords. Keywords
should be selected from the APA list of index descriptors, unless otherwise approved by the Editor.
ABSTRACT: An abstract
should be submitted that does not exceed 150 words in length. This should be on a separate page following the title page.

PAGE PROOFS AND OFFPRINTS: When your manuscript is
received by the Publisher it is considered to be in its final form. Proofs are not to be regarded as 'drafts.' One set of page proofs
will be sent to the corresponding author, to be checked for typesetting/editing. No changes in, or additions to, the accepted (and subsequently
edited) text will be allowed at this stage. Proofreading is solely the authors' responsibility. Please return corrections within 3 days
of receipt of the proofs. Should there be no corrections, please confirm this.
Twenty-five offprints will be supplied free of

the author(s) must obtain written permission from the copyright owners and credit the source(s) in the article. Elsevier has forms for

NIH voluntary posting policy
US National Institutes of Health (NIH) voluntary posting (" Public Access") policy Elsevier
facilitates author response to the NIH voluntary posting request (referred to as the NIH "Public Access
Policy", see http://www.nih.gov/about/publicaccess/index.htm)
by posting the peer-reviewed author's
manuscript directly to PubMed Central on request from the author, 12 months after formal publication.
Upon notification
from Elsevier of acceptance, we will ask you to confirm via e-mail (by e-mailing us at NIHauthorrequest@elsevier.com)
that your work has received NIH funding and that you intend to respond to
the NIH policy request, along with your NIH award number to
facilitate processing. Upon such confirmation, Elsevier will
submit to PubMed Central on your behalf a version of your manuscript that
will include peer-review comments, for posting
12 months after formal publication. This will ensure that you will have responded fully
to the NIH request policy. There
will be no need for you to post your manuscript directly with PubMed Central, and any such posting
is prohibited.
