Content

Nurse Leader's mission is to provide the vision, skills, and tools needed by nurses currently in or aspiring to leadership positions. The publication meets the needs of all nurses on the leadership learning curve-from administrators making the transition from management to leadership to established leaders seeking to take their skills and experience to a higher level.

Style

The preferred writing style is direct and informal. The narrative should flow in a logical sequence with frequent paragraphing. Feel free to use examples from personal experience and practice to illustrate certain points. Case histories also are helpful. Please avoid excessive technical jargon.

Format

Refer to Guide for Authors at external link ees.elsevier.com/nl. Submit only original manuscripts not under consideration by other publications. Article length should be 1500 words. Do not include an abstract or keywords. Designate each illustration and table by placing the citation "Figure 1" or "Table 2," as appropriate, in the text

Title Page

Articles require a title page that includes the title of the manuscript, author names with earned credentials, address, e-mail address, and disclosure statements (see Disclosure of Financial Interests and Potential Conflicts of Interest below). The email address for the corresponding author will be published in the article. Any acknowledgments should also be listed here.

References

NL uses the AMA style for references, which assigns one number (and only one) for each source and numbers them consecutively in the text as superscript numbers. Refer to external link http://www.biomedicaleditor.com/ama-style.html for examples of correct formatting.

Graphics

JPG, TIF, or EPS formats are required (no word documents or power point slides for figures or photos). Line art should have a minimum resolution of 1000 dpi, halftone art (photos) a minimum of 300 dpi, and combination art (line/tone) a minimum of 500 dpi. Color figures should be submitted actual size.

Copyright transfer

If an article is accepted for publication, all authors must sign a copyright transfer form assigning all rights to the publisher.

Release for publication

If an accepted article identifies a particular facility, patient/client, etc., the author is responsible for securing written authorization to use that name. The author also is responsible for obtaining written permission of individuals identified in photographs or to use copyrighted materials, including illustrations, photographs, tables, etc.

Accountability

Disclosure of Financial Interests and Potential Conflicts of Interest
Authors are required to provide full disclosure on potential conflicts of interest, including financial or personal relationships, interests, and affiliations relevant to the subject matter of the manuscript that have occurred over the past 2 years or are expected in the foreseeable future. This disclosure may include but not be limited to employment, affiliations, consultancies, grants or funding, honoraria, royalties, stock options/ownership, expert testimony, or editorial assistance. Disclosure statements will appear with the article.

The disclosure statement should be included for each author on the title page. Authors who have no conflicts of interest to declare must say so. The following is sample text: "Jane Smith reports having received lecture fees from XYZ Laboratories. Susan Brown disclosed consulting fees from 123 Inc. Elizabeth Wall reports no financial interests or potential conflicts of interest." Authors may contact the editorial office with questions or concerns but should err on the side of inclusion when in doubt.

Nurse Leader will note that all statements, opinions, techniques, etc., presented in published articles are those of the authors and do not represent the opinions of the publisher or editor. Nurse Leader also will disclaim any responsibility for ensuring the validity of statements made in the articles, accuracy of methods suggested, etc.

Editing

All accepted manuscripts are subject to editing, which may involve only minor changes of grammar, punctuation, paragraphing, etc. However, some editing may involve condensing or restructuring the narrative. Corresponding authors will receive a proof to check their work before the issue goes to press.

Articles should be submitted at external link ees.elsevier.com/nl or the Nurse Leader website at external link www.nurseleader.com. Questions before submission can be sent to the editor at roxane.spitzer@gmail.com.
