SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS
There are three options available for JVLC:
Authors are encouraged to submit their
papers electronically by using online manuscript submission at http://ees.elsevier.com/jvlc/ . Authors interested in online
submission are requested to go to the website and upload their manuscript and its associated artwork. An electronic (PDF) proof is generated
and the reviewing process is carried out using that PDF. The PDF file may be edited after acceptance to follow journal standards. Authors
and editors send and receive all correspondence by email via the website and no paper correspondence is performed.
Authors
can also submit their ps or pdf file to the editorial office at jvlc@elsevier.com

Manuscripts may be submitted
to either editor. Only original papers will be considered. Manuscripts are accepted for review with the understanding that the same work
has not been, will not be, nor is at present submitted elsewhere, and that its submission for publication has been approved by all of
the authors and by the institution where the work was carried out; further, that any person cited as a personal communication has approved
such citation. Written authorization may be required at the editors' discretion. Articles and any other material published in the Journal
of Visual Languages and Computing represent the opinions of the author(s) and should not be construed to reflect the opinions of
the editors and the publisher. Authors are asked that with each new submission, they recommend three reviewers and supply their affiliations,
e-mail and postal addresses.
Authors submitting a manuscript do so with the understanding that if it is accepted for publication,
copyright of the article, including the right to reproduce the article in all forms and media, shall be assigned exclusively to the publisher.
The publisher will not refuse any reasonable request by the author for permission to reproduce any of his or her contributions to the
journal in print form. Requests to reproduce the contribution in electronic form can only be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Form of Manuscript
Print the entire manuscript on one side of the paper only, using double spacing and wide (3cm) margins.
(Avoid full justification, i.e., do not use a constant right-hand margin.) Ensure that each new paragraph is clearly indicated. Present
tables and figure legends on separate pages at the end of the manuscript. If possible, consult a recent issue of the journal to become
familiar with layout and conventions. Number all pages consecutively. Page 1 should contain the article title, author(s), and affiliation(s),
and the name and complete mailing address of the person to whom correspondence should be sent (please ensure that telephone and fax numbers
(with country and area code) are provided in addition to the e-mail address and complete postal address). Any footnotes to the title
(indicated by * etc.) should be placed at the bottom of page 1. Page 2 should contain a short abstract (100-150 words).
List
of Symbols
The manuscript should contain a list of all symbols used in the paper. They should be identified typographically for
the printer, not mathematically. This list will not appear in print, but is essential to avoid costly corrections in proof.
Footnotes
Text footnotes should be avoided whenever possible. If they must be used, indicate them by superscript letters in the text,
and type them double-spaced on a separate page.
Equations Equations should be typewritten and with the number placed in
parentheses at the right margin. Reference to the equations should use the form "Eq.(3)" or simply "(3)".
References
References
should be indicated in the text by numbers in square brackets and listed at the end of the paper in numerical order. They should be typed
double-spaced on a separate page. Style and punctuation of references must be in accordance with the following examples:
[1] W.Y.
Ma, B.S. Manjunath, Netra: a toolbox for navigating large image databases, Multimedia Systems 7(3) (1999) 184-198.
[2] R.C. Gonzalez,
R.E. Woods, Digital Image Processing, 3rd Edition, Addison-Wesley, Reading, MA, 1992.
[3] R.O. Stehling, M.A. Nascimento, A.X. Falcao,
Techniques for color-based image retrieval, in: C. Djerba (Ed.), Multimedia Mining-A Highway to Intelligent Multimedia Documents, Kluwer
Academic, Dordrecht, 2002 (chapter 4).
Reports should not be cited unless absolutely necessary.
Tables
Tables should
be numbered with Arabic numerals in order of appearance in the text. They should be typed double-spaced on separate pages. Each table
should have a short descriptive caption. Table footnotes (indicated by superscript lower-case letters) should be typed at the foot of
the table.
Figures
Figures should be numbered with Arabic numerals in order of appearance and should have short descriptive
captions. Line drawings must be professionally drafted originals, in black ink, with lettering large enough to be legible after a reduction
of 50-60%. Photographs must be glossy prints. No figures should exceed 8.5 x 11 in. in size; they should be designed to fit the proportions
of the printed page. Figure captions should be typed double-spaced on a separate sheet. Illustrations in colour can be accepted only
if the authors defray the cost.
Electronic Submission
Authors must submit an electronic copy of their paper with the final
version of the manuscript. The electronic copy should match the hardcopy exactly. Always keep a backup of the electronic file for
reference and safety. Full details of electronic submission and formats can be obtained from http://www.elsevier.com/locate/guidepublication
or from the Author Support Department at Elsevier (e-mail: authorsupport@elsevier.com).
Proofs
When your
manuscript if received by the Publisher it is considered to be in its final form. Proofs are not to be regarded as 'drafts.'
One
set of page proofs in PDF format will be sent by e-mail to the corresponding author, to be checked for typesetting/editing. No changes
in, or additions to, the accepted (and subsequently edited) manuscript will be allowed at this stage. Proofreading is solely your responsibility.
Corrections should be returned to the Publisher within 48 hours of receipt. Should there be no corrections, this should also be indicated.
The Publisher reserves the right to proceed with publication if corrections are not communicated.
Offprints
Twenty-five
offprints without covers will be supplied free of charge. Additional reprints can be ordered using the order form sent to the corresponding
author after the manuscript has been accepted.
