The Official Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists
Guide for Authors
The Journal of Environmental Economics and Management publishes theoretical and empirical papers devoted to specific natural
resources and environmental issues. For consideration, papers should (1) contain a substantial element embodying linkage between economic
systems and environmental and natural resources systems or (2) be of substantial importance in understanding the management and/or social
control of the economy in its relations with the natural environment. Although the general orientation of the journal is toward economics,
interdisciplinary papers by researchers in other fields of interest to resource and environmental economists will be welcomed. The journal
is intended to be of interest not only to research economists but also to the scientific community concerned with resource and environmental
management research.
JEEM Policy Concerning Replication For any paper published in this journal, all data must be clearly
documented. Computational methods must be explained in sufficient detail to permit replication, and data used in analyses must be made
available to any researcher for purposes of replication. The Editor must be notified at the time the paper is submitted to the journal,
if these conditions cannot be met.
Submission of Manuscripts
All manuscripts should be submitted to:
Charles F. Mason,
Managing Editor Journal of Environmental Economics and Management Department of Economics & Finance 1000 E. University
Avenue University of Wyoming Laramie, WY 82071-13985,USA E-mail: JEEM@uwyo.edu
Authors should submit
their paper via e-mail to JEEM@uwyo.edu. The submission package should include a text file (i.e., Word) file and a PDF version of the
manuscript containing the title, list of authors, affiliations, abstract, and a list of keywords. In exceptional circumstances, the
journal may accept a hard-copy submission. Please contact the editor (either at the postal address above or via e-mail) and explain
why such an approach is necessary before sending in the paper. When creating the PDF file, be sure that all fonts are embedded into
the PDF file. A single hard copy of the paper, along with a cover letter and submission fee, should be sent at the same time
to the above address through the regular postal or an express service.
The Association has established a submission fee of $80.00
for non-AERE members and $40.00 for AERE members. Checks should be in US dollars drawn on US banks only (no Eurocheques, please)
and should be made payable to JEEM - UW. The check can be included with the hard copy and cover letter, or the fee may be paid by VISA
or MasterCard (do not include credit card information in the cover letter) using the secure online site at https://commerce.cashnet.com/uw_jeem.
Elsevier has established agreements and developed policies to
allow authors who publish in Elsevier journals to comply with potential manuscript archiving requirements as specified as conditions
of their grant awards. To learn more about existing agreements and policies please visit http://www.elsevier.com/fundingbodies.
Manuscripts should be double-spaced throughout. Margins must be at least one inch on all sides and fonts should be
no smaller than 11 point. The title abstract page, described below, must be included. Papers not meeting these minimal formatting guidelines
will be returned to the authors without review. JEEM will not normally consider for publication manuscripts exceeding 40 pages
(everything included).
Original papers will only be considered. Manuscripts are accepted for review with the understanding that the
same work has not been and is not currently submitted elsewhere, prior to the journal's making an editorial decision. Moreover, submission
of the article for publication has been approved by all of the authors and by the institution where the work was carried out, and any
person cited as a source of personal communications has approved such citation. Written authorization may be required at the editor's
discretion. Articles and any other material published in JEEM represent the opinions of the author(s) and should not be construed to
reflect the opinions of the editor(s) and the publisher.
Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be asked to transfer copyright
(for more information on copyright, see http://www.elsevier.com/copyright). This transfer will ensure the widest possible
dissemination of information. A letter will be sent to the corresponding author confirming receipt of the manuscript. A form facilitating
transfer of copyright will be provided.
If excerpts or material from other copyrighted works are included, the author(s) must obtain
written permission from the copyright owners and credit the source(s) in the article. Elsevier has preprinted forms for use by authors
in these cases: contact Elsevier Global Rights Department, P.O. Box 800, Oxford OX5 1DX, UK; phone: (+44) 1865 843830, fax: (+44) 1865

Preparation of
Manuscript
Manuscripts should be double-spaced throughout and pages should be numbered consecutively and organized as follows:
The title page (p. 1) should contain the article title, authors' names and complete affiliations, footnotes to the title,
and the address for manuscript correspondence (including e-mail address and telephone and fax numbers).
The Abstract page
(p. 2) must contain the article title and a single paragraph summarizing the main findings of the paper in less than 150 words. After
the abstract a list of up to 10 keywords that will be useful for indexing or searching should be included.
References should
be cited in the text by Arabic numerals in brackets, e.g., [1], [2], etc. For abbreviations of journal titles, consult "Abbreviations
of Names and Serials" reviewed in Mathematical Reviews (Mathematical Reviews Annual Index, American Mathematical Society, 1990).
Only articles that have been published or are in press should be included in the references. Unpublished results or personal communications
should be cited as such in the text. Please note the following examples.
[1] J.K. Stranlund, K.K. Dhanda, Endogeneous monitoring
and enforcement of a transferable emissions permit system, J. Environ. Econom. Management 38 (1999) 267-282.

Mueller, Regional impact of federal tax and spending policies, in E. Arnold (Ed.), Alternatives to Confrontation, Heath, Lexington, MA,
1980, pp. 281-301.

Figures should be submitted in EPS or TIFF format once a paper is accepted. Color or gray scale photographs should always
use a minimum of 300 dpi. For bitmapped line drawings, use a minimum of 1000 dpi. For combination bitmapped line/halftone (color or gray
scale), a minimum of 500 dpi is required.
Please refer to http://www.elsevier.com/artworkinstructions for detailed instructions
on preparing electronic artwork.
Color Figures. Illustrations in color in the printed issue can be accepted only if the
author defrays the cost. However, if together with your accepted article, you submit usable color figures, then Elsevier will ensure,
at no additional charge, that these figures will appear in color on the Web (e.g., ScienceDirect and other sites) regardless of whether
these illustrations are reproduced in color in the printed version. For color reproduction in print, you will receive information regarding
the costs from Elsevier after receipt of your accepted article. Please visit http://www.elsevier.com/artworkinstructions
for further instructions on preparing electronic artwork.
Tables should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in
order of appearance in the text. Type each table double-spaced on a separate page with a short descriptive title typed directly above
and with essential footnotes below.
Preparation of Supplementary Material
Supplementary files offer additional possibilities
for publishing supporting applications, movies, animation sequences, high-resolution images, background datasets, sound clips, and more.
Supplementary files supplied will be published online alongside the electronic version of your article in Elsevier Web products, including
ScienceDirect (http://www.sciencedirect.com). To ensure that your submitted
material is directly usable, please provide the data in one of our recommended file formats. Authors should submit the material in electronic
format together with the article and supply a concise and descriptive caption for each file. Please note, however, that supplementary
material will not appear in the printed journal. For more detailed instructions please visit our artwork instruction pages at http://www.elsevier.com/artworkinstructions.
Author Proofs and reprints
Page proofs will be sent electronically to the corresponding author. Proofs should be corrected
carefully; the responsibility for detecting errors lies with the author. Corrections should be restricted to instances in which the proof
is at variance with the manuscript. Extensive alterations will be charged.
A PDF file of the published article, including a cover
sheet and a disclaimer outlining the terms and condition of use will be provided free of charge. Alternatively the corresponding author
can choose to receive 25 complimentary reprints.
