Guide for Authors
INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS
The
Journal of Environmental Economics
and Management
publishes theoretical and empirical papers devoted to specific natural resource and environmental issues.
For consideration, papers should (1) contain a substantial element embodying the linkage between economic systems and environmental and
natural resources systems or (2) be of significant importance in understanding the management of policy issues related to the natural
environment. Although the general orientation of the journal is toward economics, interdisciplinary papers by researchers in other fields
of interest to resource and environmental economists are welcome. The journal is intended to be of interest not only to research economists
but also to the scientific community concerned with resource and environmental management research.
JEEM Policy Concerning Replication
For any paper published in this journal, all data used must be clearly documented. Computational methods must be explained in sufficient
detail to permit replication, and data used in analysis must be made available to any researcher for purposes of replication. The Editor
must be notified at the time that a paper is submitted to the journal, if these conditions cannot be met.
PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPT
Manuscripts should be double-spaced throughout on one side of 8.5 x 11-inch or A4 white paper. Pages should be numbered consecutively
as follows:
Title Page (With Author Details)
The Title Page (With Author Details) should contain the article title, authors'
name and complete affiliations, footnotes to the title, a running title of less than 50 characters, and the address for manuscript correspondence
(including e-mail address and telephone and fax numbers).
This page must be uploaded as a separate submission item.
Blinded
Manuscript (No Author Details)
The Blinded Manuscript (No Author Details) must contain the article title and a single paragraph
abstract summarizing the main findings of the paper in less than 150 words. After the abstract a list of up to 10 key words that will
be useful for indexing or searching should be included. The main body of the paper (including the references, figures, and tables) should
start right after the keywords. No identifying information, such as the authors' names or affiliations, may appear anywhere in the document.
This file must be uploaded as a separate submission item.
References
References may be cited in the text by Arabic
numerals in brackets, e.g., [1], [2], or by the use of author-date, e.g. Arrow (1971); the latter style is preferred. Journal titles
may be listed in full; abbreviations are also allowable, see "Abbreviations of Names of Serials" reviewed in Mathematical Reviews (Mathematical
Reviews Annual Index. American Mathematical Society, 1990) for format.
Equations
Although the submission software supports
Office 2007 documents, it cannot read the Office Math Markup Language (OMML) that is used. This causes equations to be distorted in the
PDF that is created. When using Word authors should save their file as a Word 2003 (.doc) file before uploading, to ensure the equations
translate properly.
Figures
Figures should be in a finished form suitable for publication. Number figures consecutively
with Arabic numerals. Lettering on drawings should be professional quality or generated by high-resolution computer graphics and must
be large enough to withstand appropriate reduction for publication. Illustrations in color can be accepted only if the authors defray
the cost.
Tables
Tables should be numbered consecutively with Roman numerals in order of appearance in the text. Type each
table double-spaced on a separate page with a short descriptive title typed directly above and with essential footnotes below. Authors
should submit complex tables as camera-ready copy.
SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPT
All manuscripts should be submitted at Elsevier's
online Editorial System website:
http://ees.elsevier.com/jeem . Instructions regarding the appropriate formatting are given
below.
Submission Fees Policy
Each submission to this journal must be accompanied by a submission fee. The submission fee
is set at $40 for AERE members and $100 for non-AERE members. Beginning 01 February 2011, submission fees must be paid via
SubmissionStart, and the manuscript will not enter the review process until payment is verified. The submission fee is non-refundable.
A paper may be rejected by the Editors without being sent for review, should a paper be inconsistent with the Aims and Scope of the Journal
as set out on the Journal website, or not adhere to the style requirements as outlined in the Guide for Authors. The journal manager
will correspond with the contact author until the submission fee is processed and the manuscript is in the correct format, at which time
the file will be considered to be active.
Note on Submission Fee Waivers
JEEM reviewers in the past have been offered
a free submission to the journal in appreciation for timely reviews. If you have a letter inviting a free submission, you are eligible
for a submission fee waiver. To use a waiver please contact the Journal Manager, Derrick Hyatt (jeem@elsevier.com), and attach the original
invitation letter. Once your eligibility is confirmed by the journal manager he will advise you on how to proceed with your submission.
Formatting
Manuscripts submitted to JEEM must be written in English and double-spaced throughout. Margins must be at least
one inch on all sides and fonts should be no smaller than 12-point. The manuscript must follow the formatting file system instructions
listed above. The typical submission to the journal is on the order of 35 pages in length (including everything but the title and abstract
pages, and excluding reviewers' appendices). JEEM will not normally consider for publication manuscripts exceeding 40-45 pages.
Original
papers only will be considered. Manuscripts are accepted for review with the understanding that the same work has not been and will not
be submitted elsewhere, and that its submission for publication has been approved by all of the authors and by the institution where
the work was carried out; further, that any person cited as a source of personal communications has approved such citation. Written authorization
may be required at the Editor's discretion. Articles and any other material published in the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management
represent the opinions of the author(s) and should not be construed to reflect the opinions of the Editor(s) and the Publisher.
Authors
submitting a manuscript do so on the understanding that if the manuscript is accepted for publication, copyright in the article, including
the right to reproduce the article in all forms and media, shall be assigned exclusively to the Publisher. Authors are responsible for
obtaining permissions to reprint previously published figures, tables, and other material. Letters of permission should accompany the
final submission.
Electronic Transmission of Accepted Manuscripts
Authors are to transmit the manuscript text and figures
in electronic form after all revisions have been incorporated and the paper has been formally accepted for publication. An editable text
file that exactly matches the final version, and high quality files for all figures, are required for publication. Editable text file
formats include MS Word, Word Perfect, and TEX (not PDF files). TIF and EPS files are preferred for figures; PDF, DVI and PS files are
not acceptable for this purpose. During production the manuscript will be edited according to the style of the journal, and authors must
read the proofs carefully.
Highlights
Highlights are a short collection of bullet points that convey the core findings
of the article. Highlights are optional and should be submitted in a separate file in the online submission system. Please use 'Highlights'
in the file name and include 3 to 5 bullet points (maximum 85 characters, including spaces, per bullet point). See
http://www.elsevier.com/highlights
for examples.
Proofs
Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author. To avoid delay in publication, only necessary changes
should be made, and proofs should be returned promptly. Authors will be charged for alterations that exceed 10% of the total cost of
composition.
