Guide for Authors
Submission of manuscripts
Manuscripts are accepted for review with the understanding that they are neither currently under
review elsewhere nor accepted for publication elsewhere. If a paper has a non-trivial overlap with any other submission or publication,
it is the author's responsibility to inform the
JET editors about the other submissions and publications, to provide copies
thereof, and to explain the differences among them. All these materials should be provided to the
JET editors at the time of
the
JET submission. While the manuscript is under editorial review, it is the responsibility of the authors to keep the
JET
editors informed about submissions, publication plans, and publication of related research (or abstracts thereof) in other outlets, including
letters journals, journals in other disciplines, collections of articles, conference volumes, and published dissertations. Publication
of an extended abstract in a computer science conference volume will not preclude publication of a full version in the
Journal of
Economic Theory, but it is - as always - the author's responsibility to inform the
JET editors in advance and in a timely
fashion of any such publications or publication plans.
It is understood that submission of the paper for publication has been approved
by all of the authors and by the institutions where the work was carried out; further, that any person cited as a source of personal
communications has approved such citation. Written authorization may be required at the editor's discretion. Articles and any other materials
published in the
Journal of Economic Theory represent the opinions of the author(s) and should not be construed to reflect the
opinion of the Editorial Board or the Publisher.
Authors submitting a manuscript do so on the understanding that if the manuscript
is accepted for publication, copyright in the article, including the right to reproduce the article in all forms and media, shall be
assigned exclusively to the Publisher.
JET uses the web-based Editorial Express to streamline its editorial process. Please
submit your manuscript electronically in pdf format at
http://editorialexpress.com/jet. Electronic submission will ensure
a more timely review of the manuscript. PDF files must be easily readable. For instructions on how to convert documents into pdf format,
see
https://editorialexpress.com/e-editor/pdftips.html. If it is impossible for the author to submit the paper electronically,
alternative submission guidelines can be obtained by writing to
jet@econ.ucla.edu.
Accepted articles
After all revisions have been incorporated and the manuscript has been accepted for publication, authors are requested to transmit the
text and art of the manuscript in electronic form (usually both .pdf
and source code [typically .dvi]) by email to
jet@econ.ucla.edu.
Pages should be numbered consecutively and organized as follows:
1. The
title page should contain the article title, authors'
names, their complete affiliations and their e-mail addresses, footnotes to the title, and the address for manuscript correspondence
(including e-mail address, telephone and fax).
2. The
abstract must be a single paragraph that summarizes the main findings
of the paper
in less than 100 words. After the abstract a list of up to 10
keywords that will be useful for indexing
or searching should be included. In addition,
Journal of Economic
Literature classification numbers that identify the subject area of the article should be listed at the end of the abstract.
3.
References should be cited in the text by an Arabic number between square brackets, as [1], [1,2], [1, Theorem 1.5],
etc. Please note the following examples.
[1] G.J. Mailath, S. Morris, Repeated games with almost-public monitoring, J. Econ. Theory
102 (2002), 189-228.
[2] D. Ray, Development Economics, Princeton Univ. Press, Princeton, NJ, 1998.
[3] R. Radner, On the core
of a cartel, in: G. Debreu, W. Neuefeind, W. Trockel (Eds.), Economics Essays, Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 2001, pp. 315-331.
For unpublished
lectures or symposia, include title of the paper, name of the sponsoring society in full, and date. For journal names, follow the
Journal of Economic Literature abbreviations.
4.
Figures should be in a finished form suitable for publication. Number
figures consecutively with Arabic numerals, and indicate the top and the authors on the backof each figure. Lettering on drawings should
be professional quality or generated by high-resolution computer graphics and must be large enough to withstand appropriate reduction
for publication.
5.
Tables should be numbered consecutively with Roman numerals in order of appearance in the text. Type
each table double-spaced on a separate page with a short descriptive title typed directly above and with essential footnotes below. Authors
should submit complex tables as camera-ready copy.
6.
Equations should be typewritten and with the number placed in parentheses
at the right margin. Reference to equations should use the form "Eq. (3)" or simply (3).
7. Authors should include materials such
as datasets, statistical analyses, special computer codes, and detailed computations that are not intended for publication but that are
critical and important for obtaining the results of the manuscript. Datasets and computer codes should, if possible, be in plain ASCII
(text) files that can be read on any computer system. Where an application such as a spreadsheet is used, it should be in an open rather
than proprietary format (the
JET office can help with conversion if necessary). These materials may be posted on the
JET Supplementary Materials webpage. Errata and corrigenda that are based on articles published in
JET may
also be posted on this page.
The manuscript will be edited according to the style of the journal. Proofs will be sent to the corresponding
author. Authors must read the proofs carefully. To avoid delay in publication, only necessary changes should be made, and proofs should
be returned promptly. Authors will be charged for alterations that exceed 10% of the total cost of composition. Authors must alert the
editors if there have been any changes of substance.
