After final acceptance of an article only
corrections to the title and list of authors as they appear on the accepted article will be permitted, not changes; particularly, no
author names may be added to or deleted from the accepted list.
Types of Papers
Review articles, normally approximately
50 typed manuscript pages with about 60 references, and arranged in numbered sections at the authors discretion but with an abstract
and list of 3-6 keywords.
Original Research Papers, usually not exceeding 30 manuscript pages and reporting research relating
to the testing of an original hypothesis or to the achievement of a single or small related set of objectives. The case for undertaking
the study, its originality and its importance must be laid out in the Introduction and the Hypothesis or Objective must be stated under
a separate heading. The format should therefore be as follows: Title page (see below), Abstract (plus 3-6 keywords) on a separate
page, 1. Introduction, 2. Objective or Hypothesis, 3. Materials and methods, 4. Results, 5. Discussion and References. The sections numbered
here should be so numbered in the manuscript.
Brief communications should be submitted as a continuous text but with the same
notional divisions as those of an Original Research Paper. An abstract and Keywords should still be provided. Manuscripts should not
exceed 20 typescript pages.
Correspondence in the form of Letters to the Editor, concerning any subject relevant to the subject
of the journal, may be published at the Editors' discretion. Such letters should not exceed three typescript pages.
Preparation
of Manuscripts.
The preferred medium of final submission to the accepting editor is on disc with accompanying reviewed
and revised manuscript (see "Electronic Manuscripts" below). However, Elsevier encourage the use of ElSubmit.
Manuscripts should
be in the English language and should be typewritten with double spacing on one side of the paper only. A short Abstract, not
exceeding 500 words, should be on a separate sheet; it will appear at the beginning of the paper. A list of 3-6 keywords should appear
underneath the Abstract. The title page should be a separate sheet, bearing title, author(s)' name(s) and their full addresses,
and a footnote with the corresponding author's Phone and Fax (and e-mail) number. As a rule, papers should be divided into numbered sections,
headed by a caption (e.g. Abstract; 1. Introduction; 2. Objective (or Original Hypothesis); 3. Material and methods; 3. Results; 4. Discussion;
References).
Pharmaceuticals
The Journal will be distributed internationally; therefore it is essential that generic
names are used for drugs. Where this is impossible, for example, in special formulations, it is important to specify at the first usage
the content of the formulation and the manufacturer (with location).
Units and Abbreviations
Use SI (Systeme International)
Units wherever practicable. Note that the abbreviation for a unit is never followed by a full stop. When using "liter" in a measurement,
e.g. "10 g/l " write out the "liter" in full (10 g/liter). Do not use full stops in abbreviations with capital letters, e.g. DNA, ATP,
PAS. For lower case abbreviations use full stops, e.g. i.v., etc. Use mm3, not cu.mm.
Footnotes and cross-references
Footnotes should be avoided wherever possible. For essential footnotes to tables, use superscript a,b,c, ,etc.
Illustrations
Line drawings (including graphs) should be drawn in black ink on white paper or on tracing paper with blue or faint gray rulings;
graduation will not be reproduced. Lettering should be large enough to permit photographic reduction. If figures are not to be reduced
their format should not exceed 13.0 x 20 cm (the typing area of the Journal).
Photographs (or half-tone illustrations) must be of good
quality, submitted as black and white prints on glossy paper, and have as much contrast as possible. The degree of reduction will be
determined by the publisher, but in general it should be assumed that the same degree of reduction will be applied to all figures in
the same paper. For photomicrographs, where possible, a scale should appear on the photograph. Color plates will be reproduced at the
expense of the author(s). Illustrations should be clearly marked on the reverse side with the number, orientation (top) and author's
name; a soft pencil or preferably a felt-tipped pen should be used for marking photographs. The illustrations should be numbered with
Arabic numerals. The legends should be typed separately.
Colour illustrations with Colourful e-Product
Submit colour illustrations
as original photographs, high-quality computer prints or transparencies, close to the size expected in publication, or as 35 mm slides.
Please make sure the artwork is in an acceptable format (TIFF, EPS, MS Office files) and is at the correct resolution. Polaroid colour
prints are not suitable. If, together with your accepted article, you submit usable colour figures then Elsevier will ensure, at no additional
charge, that these figures will appear in colour on the web (e.g., Science Direct and other sites) regardless of whether or not these
illustrations are reproduced in colour in the printed version. For colour reproduction in print, you will receive information regarding
the costs from Elsevier after receipt of your accepted article. For further information on the preparation of electronic artwork, please
see http://www.elsevier.com/artworkinstructions
[Please note: Because of technical complications which can arise by
converting colour figures to "grey scale" (for printed version should you not opt for colour in print) please submit in addition
usable black and white prints corresponding to all the colour illustrations.]
Tables. Tables should be compiled on separate
sheets with double spacing, numbered with Arabic numerals and provided with a short descriptive title, a legend and/or footnotes identified
by superscripts a,b,c,, etc.
References. Please use the Vancouver reference system. In the text references should
be numbered consecutively within square brackets (e.g. [1]). If you cite a reference more than once in the text, please use the same
number each time. References in the reference list should accord with the system in Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to
biomedical journals (N Engl J Med 1991;34;424-29). Please ensure that references are complete and that all references that appear in
the text also appear in the list, and vice versa.
Examples (journal [1], book [2], book chapter 3]): [1] Demirci G, Hoshino K, Nashan

Immunol 1999; 7(4);229-37. [2] Bach FH, Auchincloss H Jr. eds. Transplantation Immunology. New York, Wiley-Liss, 1995. [3] Billingham
ME. Cardiac transplantation. In Sale GE, ed. The Pathology of Organ Transplantation. Boston, MA: Butterworths, 1990: 133-52.
Please
note that all authors should be listed when six or less: when seven or more list only the first three and add et al. Do not include references
to personal communications, unpublished data or manuscripts in preparation or submitted for publication.
Online submission
of papers.
Authors are encouraged to submit their manuscripts electronically, by using the ElSubmit submission tool at http://www.elsubmit.com/esubmit/trim.
After registration, authors will be asked to upload their article and associated artwork. The submission tool will generate a PDF file
to be used for the reviewing process. The submission tool generates an automatic reply which incorporates the manuscript number for future
correspondence.
Full instructions on how to use the online submission tool are available at the above web address.
Submission
of Manuscripts on disk. Electronic manuscripts have the advantage that there is no need for the rekeying of text, thereby avoiding
the possibility of introducing errors and resulting in reliable and fast delivery of proofs.
Authors are required to submit a computer
diskette (3.5 inch HD/DD) to the editorial office following these guidelines.• Specify software, including releases, e.g. Word
Office 97. • Specify platform (PC or Mac) • Include the text file and separate table and illustration files.
• The file should be single-spaced and should use the wrap-around, end-of-the-line feature (ilel no return at the end of each line).
All textual elements should begin flush left; no paragraph indents. Place two returns after every element such as title, headings, paragraphs,
figure and table call-outs. • Keep a back-up disk for reference and safety. • When you paper has been refereed, revised
if necessary and accepted, send a disk containing the final version with the final hard copy. Verify that the disk and hardcopy match
exactly. After final acceptance, your disk plus one, final, printed and exactly matching version (as a printout) should
be submitted together to the accepting editor. It is important the the file on disk and the printout are identical. Both will
then be forwarded by the editor to Elsevier. Further information may be obtained from the Publisher.
Proofs, Offprints and Page
Charge One set of proofs will be sent to the author(s) to be checked for typographical errors. No alteration to the text, tables
or legends will be accepted. In case of two or more authors please indicate to whom the proofs should be sent. Twenty-five (25)
offprints are provided free of charge. Additional copies (minimum 100) may be ordered at prices shown on the reprint order form, sent
out together with the proofs.
