Guide for Authors
All new and revised manuscripts must be submitted through the Government Information Quarterly online submission and review Web
site ( http://ees.elsevier.com/giq). Authors are requested to submit the text, tables, and artwork in electronic form (e.g.,
Word or RTF format) to this address in appropriate files (cover letter, reviewer recommendations, title page with author identifiers,
manuscript without author identifiers, tables, figures, and author bios). In an accompanying letter, authors should state that the manuscript,
or parts of it, have not been and will not be submitted elsewhere for publication. Submission items include a cover letter, the manuscript
(including title page, abstract, manuscript text, references, tables, and figures). Revised manuscripts should also be accompanied by
a unique file (separate from the covering letter) with responses to reviewers' comments.
1. The Editors are pleased to receive invited
and unsolicited manuscripts, in English, from all parts of the world, that emphasize government information policies, resources, services,
or practices. Standard United States spelling will be used throughout. All acronyms and abbreviations should be spelled out when first
used in the text.
2. Invited papers, as well as unsolicited articles, are subject to the (double-blind) refereeing process.
All papers are sent out anonymously to members of the Editorial Board and other reviewers as well.
3. The criterion for acceptance
is appropriateness to the field, taking into account the merit of content and presentation.
4. Submission of a manuscript clearly
implies commitment to publish in this journal. Previously published papers and papers under review by another journal are unacceptable.
5. Letters to the Editor should not exceed 400 words in length and may be: (a) comments or criticisms of articles recently published
in the journal; and (b) announcements of developments and issues warranting the attention of readers.
6. Because the number of titles
published each year of potential value to our readers is quite large, only a few can be formally reviewed. Persons wishing to write reviews
or to suggest titles are invited to contact Aimee C. Quinn at aquinn@uic.edu. Publishers, likewise, are requested to forward
announcements of new and forthcoming titles that may interest our readers. Books submitted to the publisher will not be accepted.
7.
The manuscript must be double-spaced with one-inch margins all around. Use a 12-point font for all typed text. Typical manuscripts should
be 25-30 manuscript pages. An address for directing correspondence and an e-mail address should be provided on the title page.
8.
Type each table on a separate page at the end of the manuscript.
9. Figures (graphs, charts, line drawings, or illustrations) should
be numbered with Arabic numerals. For more detailed instructions please visit our artwork instruction pages at http://www.elsevier.com/artworkinstructions.
10. References. Manuscripts must conform to the fifth edition (2001) of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological
Association. All references appearing in the reference list must be cited in the text of the manuscript. All references must be
closely checked to determine that dates, spelling, and other information are consistent and correct. Several examples follow:

should be used only if essential to the text. If used, they should be marked with consecutive Arabic numerals.
12. Headings and subheadings
should be included to make the paper more readable.
13. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission from the copyright owner
(usually this is the publisher) to use any quotation, illustration, or table from another source.
14. Please contact the editors
