The Public Relations Review is the only journal published five times a year devoted to articles that examine public relations
in depth. Articles
based on empirical research undertaken by professionals and academics in the field are welcomed. Also encouraged
are notes
on research in brief, book reviews, and precis of new books in the fields of public relations, mass communications,
organizational
communications, public opinion formation, social science research and evaluation, marketing, management,
and public policy formation.
Submission of Papers
Submission for all types of manuscripts to Public Relations Review proceeds totally online via the
Elsevier Editorial System Web site for this journal at http://ees.elsevier.com/pubrel. You will be guided stepwise through
the creation and uploading of the various files. When submitting a manuscript to Elsevier Editorial System, authors need to provide an
electronic version of their manuscript. In an accompanying cover letter, authors should state that the manuscript, or parts of it, have
not been and will not be submitted elsewhere for publication. Please note that an editable file is needed for production purposes after
acceptance, and we ask that you submit source files in the case that your manuscript is accepted. PDF files are also acceptable. Authors
are requested to include a cover letter, manuscript, tables, and figures, as well as any ancillary materials.
Authors unable to
submit an electronic version should contact the Editorial Office.
Authors should select a category designation for their manuscripts
(article, short communication, review, etc.). Once the uploading is done, the system automatically generates an electronic (PDF) proof,
which is then used for reviewing once approved and submitted to the journal by the author. All correspondence, including the editor's
decision and request for revisions, will be by e-mail to the corresponding author of the paper.
Each article will be screened by
the editors for relevance to the Review. Those judged relevant will be submitted to a panel of
two or more referees chosen from the
Editorial Review Committee. An article may be accepted in existing form, accepted
subject to revisions, or deferred for rewriting.
Tables and Figures
When creating tables, select left to right rather than up and down formatting direction. If no table
function/ability to create cells
exists in your software, use tabs (if you use the space bar we will not be able to maintain the layout
of your table). •For instructions on the submission of electronic art, please go to:
http://www.elsevier.com/artworkinstructions
Font Changes:
•Use font changes only as required for reasons of meaning (e.g., vectors), as opposed to reasons
of style (except in references,
which should follow journal style regarding boldface and italic).
Visual Presentation:
•Authors should not attempt to determine the visual presentation of the article. All design considerations regarding typeface,
page layout, artwork, etc. will be handled by the Publisher. •Do not use any special formatting. In particular, please do
not use:
1. Borders
2. Drop cap
3. Highlighting
4. Multiple columns (except in tables)
5. Page breaks
6.
Section breaks
7. Shading
8. Textboxes •All text should be flush left. •Do not run in heads; present them
as separate paragraphs, regardless of how they will appear in the printed journal.
Keyboarding the Manuscript:
Distinguish
between:
•Capital letter O and number 0. •Capital letter I, lowercase letter l, and the number 1.
Journal Style:
•References, as well as author and affiliation information, should be presented consistently with Public Relations Review style.
Our style sheet is at the end of these instructions. •For further questions of journal style, please refer to the journal's
Web site or Information for Authors page. Journal Web
sites can be found through the Elsevier home page at http://www.elsevier.com.
Punctuation:
•Do not hyphenate except where a hyphen naturally occurs (as in anti-inflammatory). Hyphens should not
be used to indicate how a word breaks at the end of a line.
Style Sheet for Public Relations Review Citations:
Note: Beginning
with the Spring 2004 issue, Vol. 30, No. 1, Public Relations Review will be changing its footnote and reference style to the APA Style.
Please contact the editor if you have any questions about this.
Proofs
When your accepted manuscript is received by
the Publisher it is considered to be in its final form. Proofs are not to be regarded as 'drafts'. One set of page proofs in PDF format
will be sent by e-mail to the corresponding author, to be checked for typesetting/editing. No changes in, or additions to, the accepted
(and subsequently edited) manuscript will be allowed at this stage. Proofreading is solely your responsibility. A form with queries from
the copyeditor may accompany your proofs. Please answer all queries and make any corrections or additions required. Elsevier will do
everything possible to get your article corrected and published as quickly and accurately as possible. In order to do this we need your
help. When you receive the (PDF) proof of your article for correction, it is important to ensure that all of your corrections are sent
back to us in one communication. Subsequent corrections will not be possible, so please ensure your first sending is complete. Note that
this does not mean you have any less time to make your corrections, just that only one set of corrections will be accepted.
Offprints
Twenty-five offprints will be supplied free of charge. Additional offprints and copies of the issue can be ordered at a specially
reduced rate using the order form sent to the corresponding author after the manuscript has been accepted. Orders for reprints (produced
after publication of an article) will incur a 50% surcharge.
