Guide for Authors

Official Journal of the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists

Attention authors: MEDICAL DOSIMETRY will soon have new guidelines for article types and required formats. We encourage you to postpone submission until these new guidelines are posted. If you do choose to submit a new paper now, please be advised that the timeframe for the decision will be longer than usual, due to the current volume of submissions. Thank you for your understanding and your interest in the Journal.

Medical Dosimetry, the official publication of the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists, is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research and review articles by dosimetrists, physicists, oncologists, and radiation therapy technologists on clinical applications and techniques of external beam, interstitial, intracavitary, and intraluminal irradiation in cancer management. Medical Dosimetry is included in MEDLINE and Thomson/ISI's Science Citation Index Expanded. Correspondence relating to publication of papers should be addressed to the Editor.

Submission of Manuscripts should be done via the Medical Dosimetry submission and review website (External link http://ees.elsevier.com/meddos ). Authors are requested to submit the text, tables, and artwork in electronic form at this site. In an accompanying letter, authors should state that the manuscript has not been and will not be submitted elsewhere for publication. Please note that an editable file is needed for production purposes, so please upload your text files as Word (.doc) files, not as PDFs. Authors are requested to include a cover letter (save as a separate file for upload), manuscript, tables, and figures, as well as any ancillary materials. Files should be labeled with appropriate and descriptive file names (e.g., SmithText.doc, Fig1.tif, Table3.doc). Upload text, tables, and graphics (figures) as separate files. (You can compress multiple figure files into a Zip file and upload that in one step; the system will then unpack the files and prompt you to name each figure.) Complete instructions for electronic artwork submission can be found at www.elsevier.com/artworkinstructions.

Authors unable to submit manuscripts online should contact the editorial office at:

Title Page. The title should be brief and specific. The title page should contain: title, author and co-authors, and institutions and addresses for each author. If the paper was presented at a meeting, the name of the organization, place, and date of meeting should be listed. Provide the corresponding author's full mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address.

Abstract and Key Words. An abstract of 300 words or less should be included with each article. It should contain a concise summary of the results, conclusions, and other significant points in the paper. For subject indexing purposes, four (4) key words should be provided with the abstract.

References. References. Identify references in the text, tables, and legends by Arabic numerals as superscripts. References cited only in table or figure legends should be numbered in accordance with a sequence established by the first mention in the text of the particular table or figure. Examples of reference style are as follows:

Language editing. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their articles are written in clear English. For a list of companies that can offer language editing services, please see External link http://www.elsevier.com/languagepolishing.

Permissions. If a table or figure has been previously published, the manuscript should include a credit line and the author should include a permission letter from the original publisher.

Review and Production Process. All manuscripts are peer reviewed. All material accepted for publication is subject to copyediting. Authors will receive page proofs of their article before publication and should answer all queries and carefully check all editorial changes at this point.
