EDITORIALS--commentaries by leaders in magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy.
TECHNICAL NOTES--shorter communications focusing on technical advances in the field.
CASE REPORTS--original findings in specific clinical disorders that highlight particular technical aspects of magnetic resonance.
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR--commentaries on papers published in the journal and other relevant matters.
BOOK AND AUDIOVISUAL REVIEWS--as solicited by the Editor.
RAPID COMMUNICATIONS--original contributions describing new developments of high impact that justify expedited review.

Submission of Manuscripts:

As of January 1, 2007 all new manuscripts must be submitted through the Magnetic Resonance Imaging online submission and review Web site ( http://ees.elsevier.com/mri/ ). Authors are requested to submit the text, tables, and artwork in electronic form (not as a PDF) to this address. In an accompanying letter, authors should state that the manuscript, or parts of it, have not been and will not be submitted elsewhere for publication. Authors are highly encouraged to include a list of three or more potential reviewers for their manuscript, with complete contact information.

Submission items include a cover letter (save as a separate file for upload), suggested reviewers, the manuscript (including title page, abstract, manuscript text, references, and table/figure legends), tables, and figures. Revised manuscripts should also be accompanied by a unique file (separate from the covering letter) with responses to reviewers' comments. The preferred order of files is as follows: cover letter, suggested reviewers, response to reviews (revised manuscripts only), manuscript file(s), table(s), figure(s). Files should be labeled with appropriate and descriptive file names (e.g., SmithText.doc, Fig1.eps, Table3.doc). Upload text, tables and graphics as separate files. Do not import figures or tables into the text document and do not upload your text as a PDF. Complete instructions for electronic artwork submission can be found on the Author Gateway, accessible through the journal home page.

Authors who are unable to provide an electronic version or have other circumstances that prevent online submission must contact the Editorial Office prior to submission to discuss alternate options. The Publisher and Editors regret that they are not able to consider submissions that do not follow these procedures.

Copyright and Originality: It is a condition of publication that manuscripts submitted to this journal have not been published and will not be simultaneously submitted or published elsewhere. All authors must sign the Transfer of Copyright Agreement, available from the editors, before the article can be published. A copy of this Agreement is sent to the authors after the paper has been reviewed and accepted for publication. (U.S. government officers or employees whose submitted work was prepared as part of their employment are exempt from the transfer requirement, but must certify their status as government writers.) This transfer agreement enables Elsevier Inc. to protect the copyrighted material for the authors, but does not relinquish the authors' proprietary rights or rights to use their work as they please in the future. The copyright transfer covers the exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the article, including reprints, photographic reproductions, microform, or any other similar reproductions of similar nature and translations.

Nomenclature: The Council of Biology Editors (CBE) Style Manual should be followed for style. Abbreviations and acronyms should be spelled out the first time they are used in the manuscript; less common ones should also be spelled out in tables and figures. Units of measure and time require no explanation.

The numbers identifying mathematical expressions should be placed in parentheses after the equation, flush to the right margin; when referring to equations within text, use the following style: Eq. (5), Eqs. (3-10), [see Eq. (4)], etc.

Product Identification: All products mentioned in the text should be identified with the name of the manufacturer, city and state, in parentheses after the first mention of the product; e.g., . . . using a Varian 4013A electromagnet (Varian Associated, Inc., Palo Alto, CA).

References: Type references double-spaced and number them consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text, not alphabetically. Identify references in the text, tables and legends by Arabic numbers typed in brackets. References cited only in table or figure legends should be numbered in accordance with a sequence established by the first mention in the text of the particular table or figure. All works cited in text must be listed and all references in the list must be cited in the text. Do not include personal communications or unpublished data in the reference list.

Journal abbreviations used are those of the Index Medicus. The Council of Biology Editors (CBE) Style Manual should be followed for style. Avoid the use of "et al." by providing all author names whenever possible. Examples:

Tables: Should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numbers in order of their appearance in the text. Type each table double-spaced on a separate sheet. Do not use vertical rules. Supply a short descriptive title above the table and longer explanations or definitions of units in a table footnote.

Figures: All figures must accompany the submitted manuscript. If submitting by email, include figures in the PDF document in the order to which they are referred in the text. A detailed guide on electronic artwork is available at http://authors.elsevier.com/artwork . If hard copy manuscripts are submitted, figures may be provided as line drawings done with black ink on heavy white paper, high-quality black and white (halftone) or color photographs printed on glossy paper. Photocopies are not suitable for reproduction. Each figure should be clearly identified on the back with the author name(s) and figure number. The top of the figure should also be labeled.

Color figures are welcomed, and will appear in color on the web at no extra charge; however, there is a charge for the reproduction of color illustrations in print ($650 for the first color figure and $100 for each additional color figure in the same article). Alternatively, the illustrations can be reproduced in black and white in the print edition at no extra charge.

Offprints: Can be ordered on an Offprint Order Form which will accompany the proofs sent to the authors after the paper has been accepted. Unless instructions to the contrary have been received, only the first-named author will receive this form. The author filling in the form should make sure that all co-authors' needs for offprints are incorporated in the total order. Offprint Order Forms must be received before printing in order to qualify for lower prepublication rates.

The original manuscript and figures will be discarded one month after publication unless the publisher is requested to return original material to the author.
