Simulation and Computation for Engineering and Environmental Systems
Guide for Authors
Guide for Authors
Applied Mathematical Modelling welcomes contributions on research related to the mathematical modelling
of engineering and environmental processes, manufacturing and industrial systems. A significant emerging area of research activity involves
multi-physics processes, and contributions in this area are particularly encouraged.
Applied Mathematical Modelling is
aimed at reflecting the advances of what is a very fast moving area of endeavor. All engineering organizations make extensive use of
computational models in the design, analysis, optimization and control of processes or systems. The objective of the journal is to serve
the needs of the mathematical modelling community by acting as the focus for the communication of research results, reviews of progress
and discussions of issues of emerging interest to those in this rapidly expanding field.
Contributions are classified as research
papers and review articles. Research papers should be a record of original research and approximately 6,000 to 8,000 equivalent words
in length.
Review articles are also published but normally only on invitation. Interested authors should consult the Editor
before preparation of such articles.
Only work not previously published will ordinarily be accepted. If any tables or illustrations
have been published elsewhere, it is the author's responsibility to secure the necessary permission from the original publisher.
Page charges are not levied by the journal.
For complete up-to-date addresses of Editors please check the link
to the Editorial Board at the beginning of these instructions.
Web Submission Site
Papers should be submitted
electronically through the Elsevier Editorial System (EES): http://ees.elsevier.com/apm Authors submit their article online
by simply registering, logging-in, and submitting. Editors will then invite potential reviewers by email. Detailed instructions on the
use of the online submission system are available at http://ees.elsevier.com/apm. Please read the ''Hints'' for information
on how to register. Please note that you must have an email address to use the online submission system. If you need any further assistance,
please do not hesitate to contact our Author Support Department at: authorsupport@elsevier.com
Refereeing All contributions are studied by referees whose names are not normally disclosed to authors. On acceptance for publication papers
are subject to editorial amendment. Authors are solely responsible for the factual accuracy of their papers.
Manuscripts
Authors are urged to write as concisely as possible. Papers should be arranged in the following order of presentation: title of paper;
names of the authors; address of the place at which the work was carried out; a self-contained synopsis (abstract) of the paper (50-200
words in length); 4-6 suggested keywords; the text; acknowledgments (if any); references, tables; an abbreviated title for use as a running
headline; captions to figures (on separate pages).
Illustrations
For full details on the preparation of electronic artwork,
please see: http://www.elsevier.com/artworkinstructions Elsevier recommend that only TIFF, EPS or PDF
formats are used for electonic artwork. MS Office files (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) are also accepted provided that they meet certain
conditions. To ensure that the final, published version (in print and online) matches your electronic file as closely as possible make
sure that you only use the following fonts in the creation of your artwork: Arial; Courier; Helvetica; Symbol; Times. If you submit
usable colour figures, we will ensure, at no additional charge, that these figures appear in colour on ScienceDirect, regardless of whether
these illustrations are reproduced in colour in the printed version.
Tables
Tables should be typed on separate pages
together with a suitable caption at the top of each table. Column headings should be kept as brief as possible.
References
These should be indicated in the text by superior Arabic numerals, which run consecutively through the paper. The references
should be grouped in a section at the end of the text in numerical order and should take the form: surname and initials (use et al.
in cases where the number of authors is greater than three); full title of paper; abbreviated journal title; year of publication; volume
number; inclusive page numbers. If in doubt, authors should always write the journal title in full.
References to a book should take
the form: author's surname, followed by initials; title of book underlined; editors (if any); volume number/edition (if any); name of
publisher; place of publication; year of publication; and inclusive page numbers.
Copyright
Upon acceptance of an article,
authors will be asked to sign a ?Journal Publishing Agreement?. Acceptance of the agreement will ensure the widest possible dissemination
of information. Authors have wide rights to use their works to support their research and teaching. For example, authors can share their
articles with colleagues, use them electronically for courses and post a pre-print version on their homepage or pre-print servers and
retain it there indefinitely. For full details of the rights you retain as an author, please see: http://www.elsevier.com/locate/authorsrights.
If material from other copyrighted works is included, the author(s) must obtain written permission from the copyright owners and
credit the source(s) in the article. Elsevier has preprinted forms for use by authors in these cases: contact Elsevier's Rights Department,
Oxford, UK: phone (+44) 1865 843830, fax (+44) 1865 853333, e-mail permissions@elsevier.com. Requests may also be completed online via
the Elsevier home page ( http://www.elsevier.com/locate/permissions).
Proofs
When your manuscript is received
by the Publisher it is considered to be in its final form. One set of page proofs in PDF format will be sent by e-mail to the Corresponding
Author, to be checked for typesetting/editing. If no e-mail address is provided, proofs will be sent by post. No changes in, or additions
to, the accepted (and subsequently edited) manuscript will be allowed at this stage. Whenever possible, corrections should be e-mailed
back promptly to Elsevier.
Reprints
The corresponding author, at no cost, will be provided with a PDF file of the article
via e-mail
or, alternatively, 25 free paper offprints. The PDF file is a watermarked version of the published article and includes a
cover sheet with the journal cover image and a disclaimer
outlining the terms and conditions of use.
