An International Journal Reporting Research on Wave Phenomena
Guide for Authors
Submissions of Papers
The Board of Editors will be pleased to receive contributions from all parts of the world.
Authors
are encouraged to submit their papers using the Wave Motion Online
Submission Tool. Alternatively authors can submit by sending three hard copies of the manuscript and matching disk or email
directly to an editor who is an expert in the field of work being submitted. For specific enquiries on the preparation of electronic
figures, consult (http://www.elsevier.com/locate/wamot. A current list of members of the Board of Editors is supplied at
the journal homepage (http://www.elsevier.com/locate/05250) and is also published in every issue.
When sending your
manuscript by mail, please send two copies to the editor most relevant to the topic of your paper, and one copy to the Editor-in-Chief.

No length limitations for contributions are set, but only
concisely written papers are published. Letters and discussions of previously published papers are welcome.
Manuscript Preparation
The language of the Journal is English. Manuscripts submitted in other languages may be considered at the discretion of the Board of
Editors. Manuscripts should be double spaced with wide margins and only one side of the page should be used. The title should be brief.
The body of the manuscript should be preceded by an abstract, without formulae. All mathematical symbols which are not typewritten should
be specified and listed separately. Unusual symbols or notations should be identified in the margins. Awkward mathematical notations
which require special typesetting procedures must be avoided. The numbers identifying displayed mathematical expressions should be placed
in parentheses at the right margin.
References References to published literature should be cited in the text as numbers
in square brackets and listed in numerical order at the end of the article. Journal titles should be abbreviated in the style of the
4th edition of the World List of Scientific Periodicals. References to journal articles should be arranged as:
[1] L. Beryland
and R. Burridge, "The accuracy of the O′Doherty-Anstey approximation for wave propagation in highly disordered stratified
medis" Wave Motion 21, 357-373 (1995).
Book references should be given as:
[2] J.D. Achenbach, Wave Propagation in Elastic
Solids, North-Holland, Amsterdam (1973).
Upon acceptance of an article, the author(s) will be asked to transfer copyright of the
article to the Publisher. This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information.
Illustrations
Illustrations
are to be restricted to the minimum necessary. They should accompany the manuscript on separate sheets, in a form suitable for photographic
reproduction and reduction. Each figure should have a number and a caption; the captions should be collected on a separate sheet. The
appropriate place of a figure should be indicated in the margin.
Electronic publishing
The Publisher welcomes the receipt
of an electronic version of your accepted manuscript (encoded in LaTeX). If you have not already supplied the final, revised version
of your article (on diskette) to the Editor, you are requested herewith to send a file with the text of the accepted manuscript directly
to the Publisher by e-mail or on diskette to the address given below. If the electronic file is suitable for processing by the Publisher,
proofs will be produced without rekeying the full text. There is little restriction on the word processor used for preparing articles
with few and/or uncomplicated equations. Articles containing many equations are more likely to be processed from author's files if encoded
in LaTeX. Either standard LaTeX (with document style article ) or Elsevier style LaTeX are preferred. The Elsevier LaTeX package (including
detailed instructions for LaTeX preparation) can be obtained from the Comprehensive TeX Archive Network (CTAN). Search for Elsevier on
the CTAN Search page http://www.ucc.ie/cgi-bin/ctan, or the CTAN-Web page http://tug2.cs.umb.edu/ctan, or
use direct access via FTP at http://ftp.dante.de (Germany), http://ftp.tex.ac.uk (UK), or http://tug2.cs.umb.edu
(Massachusetts, USA) and go to the directory/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/supported/elsevier. The Elsevier package consists of the
files: asacii.tab (ASCII table), elsart.cls (use this file if you are using LaTeX2e, the current version of LaTeX), elsart.sty and elsart12.sty
(use these two files if you are using LaTeX2.09, the previous version of LaTeX), instraut.dvi.and/or instraut.ps (instruction booklet),
readme. CTAN is a mirrored network of http://ftp.tex.ac.uk, http://ftp.dante.de and http://tug2.cs.umb.edu,
which are widely mirrored (see http://tug2.cs.umb.edu/ctan/ctansite.txt and hold up-to-date copies of all the public-domain
versions of TeX, LaTeX, Metafont and ancillary programs.
No change from the version accepted by the Editor of the Journal are permissable
without the prior and explicit approval of the Editor. The Publisher reserves the right to decide whether to process a manuscript from
author's files or not.
After acceptance
There are no page charges. Costs for alterations in proof other than printer's
errors will, however, be charged to the authors.
