TRENDS IN MICROBIOLOGY

Guide for Authors

Trends in Microbiology is a journal of reviews and comment on the latest advances in research on the interactions of viruses, bacteria and fungi with their plant and animal hosts. It is not a vehicle for the publication of primary data.

The Editor usually comissions articles for Trends in Microbiology, but proposals for articles are welcome, especially for the Update section. Prospective authors should send a brief summary, citing key references, to the Editor, who will supply guidelines on manuscript preparation if the proposal is accepted. The submission of completed manuscripts without prior consultation with the Editor is strongly discouraged. Authors should note that all major articles in Trends in Microbiology are peer-reviewed and publication cannot be guaranteed.

Reviews and Opinion articles form the foundation of each monthly issue. Reviews are invited from leading researchers in a specific field and objectively chronicle recent and important developments. Opinion articles provide a forum for debate and hypothesis.

The Update section includes short articles highlighting topical issues and recent research papers of particular note.

Trends in Microbiology welcomes correspondence. Letters may address topics raised in recent issues of the journal, or other matters of general interest to microbiologists. The decision to publish rests with the Editor, and the author(s) of any article discussed in a Letter will normally be invited to reply.
