The International Journal of Refrigeration is published by Elsevier Ltd for the International Institute of Refrigeration.
Submission of papers:
Submission to this journal proceeds totally on-line. Use the following guidelines to prepare
your article. Via Elsevier Editorial System (EES), which can be found at http://ees.elsevier.com/jijr,
you will be guided stepwise through the creation and uploading of the various files. The system automatically converts source files to
a single Adobe Acrobat PDF version of the article, which is used in the peer-review process. Please note that even though manuscript
source files are converted to PDF at submission for the review process, these source files are needed for further processing after acceptance.
All correspondence, including notification of the Editor's decision and requests for revision, takes place by e-mail and via the Author's
homepage, removing the need for a hard-copy paper trail.
The above represents a very brief outline of this form of submission. It
can be advantageous to print this "Guide for Authors" section from the site for reference in the subsequent stages of article preparation.
Language Polishing: Authors who require information about language editing and copyediting
services pre- and post-submission please visit http://www.elsevier.com/locate/languagepolishing or contact authorsupport@elsevier.com
for more information. Please note Elsevier neither endorses nor takes responsibility for any products, goods or services offered by outside
vendors through our services or in any advertising. For more information please refer to our Terms & Conditions.
Submission address:
Authors of papers in English are requested to send their papers to
one of the Regional Editors or to the Editor-in-Chief. Papers in French should be submitted to Ing. Jacques Guilpart; food-related papers
should be sent to Professor Tuan Pham. Addresses are listed on the inside front cover of the journal and on the Editorial Board information
which appears on http://www.elsevier.com/locate/ijrefrig
Papers will be reviewed and assessed by independent referees.
Types of contributions:
Research papers should report original research or development of techniques and
applications. They should be written with a wide readership in mind and should emphasise the practical significance of the work. The
objective should be stated, procedures clearly explained and results and conclusions given. Research papers should not normally exceed
3000 words with an average of 8 figures and 2 tables (the inclusion of more figures and tables will reduce the word allowance, and vice
versa). The abstract, the nomenclature, concise figure captions and references are additional to the length allowance.
Review
Papers should provide an authoritative account of the current situation in a topic of major significance, discussing the previous
development of the subject and future directions. Prospective authors should send suggestions for review papers to the Editor-in-Chief
before manuscripts are submitted. Review papers should not normally exceed 5000 words.
Short reports, which are submitted
in the same way as papers, concentrate on new techniques, concepts and instruments; they should not exceed 1,500 words and simple illustrations
may be included. The journal will also consider notices of forthcoming meetings and exhibitions, conference reports and book reviews,
which should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief.
The Editors reserve the right to require authors to conform with the length of
the guidelines given here.
Letters to the Editor arising out of published articles and papers will also be considered for
publication and should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief.
Corresponding author: Clearly indicate who is responsible
for correspondence at all stages of refereeing and publication, including post-publication. Ensure that telephone and fax numbers
(with country and area code) are provided in addition to the e-mail address and the complete postal address. Full postal addresses
must be given for all co-authors. Please consult a recent journal paper for style if possible.
Original material: Submission
of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published
lecture or academic thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors
and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written
consent of the Publisher.
Detailed instructions on manuscript preparation and artwork instructions can be found below. The editor
reserves the right to return manuscripts that do not conform to the instructions for manuscript preparation and artwork instruction,
as well as paper that do not fit the scope of the journal, prior to refereeing.
General: Editors reserve the right to adjust style to certain standards of uniformity. Please use Word, Word Perfect or LaTeX files for
the text of your manuscript. (For further information about LaTeX submission, please go to http://www.elsevier.com/latex.)

Structure: Follow this order when preparing your manuscript for submission: Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords, Nomenclature,
Main text, Acknowledgements, Appendix, References, Figures, Figure Captions and then Tables. Do not import figures into the text - see
Illustrations (LaTeX submissions should follow LaTeX figure submission guidelines). Collate acknowledgements in a separate section at
the end of the article and do not include them on the title page, as a footnote to the title or otherwise. If possible, consult a recent
issue of the journal to become familiar with paper conventions. Back to the contents list
Text Layout: For submission use double spacing and single-column format
with 3 cm margins. Do not use full justification, i.e., do not use a constant right-hand margin. Ensure that each new paragraph is clearly
indicated. Present tables, figure legends, and figures with legends on separate pages at the end of the manuscript (LaTeX submissions
should follow LaTeX figure and table submission guidelines). Number all pages consecutively, use 12 or 10 pt font size and standard fonts.

Corresponding
author: Clearly indicate who is responsible for correspondence at all stages of refereeing and publication, including
post-publication. Ensure that telephone and fax numbers (with country and area code) are provided in addition to the e-mail address
and the complete postal address. Full postal addresses must be given for all co-authors. Please consult a recent journal paper
for style if possible. Please indicate in a footnote on your paper if you are an Officer of the IIR or Member of an IIR Commission.

Abstract: A self-contained abstract, of 150 words, outlining in a single paragraph the aims, scope and conclusions of the paper must be supplied.
Abstracts are often used in secondary publications and, if well written, can attract potential readers. Back
to the contents list
Keywords: Immediately after the abstract,
keywords (both French and English) must be selected for each submission. Provide a maximum of six keywords (avoid, for example, 'and',
'of'). Be sparing with abbreviations: only abbreviations firmly established in the field may be eligible. Please click
here and select your keywords from the given list of acceptable keywords. Back to the
contents list
Symbols: Mathematical symbols and formulae should
be typed. Particular care should be exercised in identifying all symbols and in avoiding ambiguities. Distinction should be made between
the number one (1) and the letter l and between zero (0) and the letter O. If a number of symbols are used the author must provide a
nomenclature list of these symbols and their meanings types on a separate piece of paper. All parameters must be noted in italics, except
for subscripts. British Standards BS 350, 1991 and 3763 or ISO/R31 may be referred to for units, abbreviations and symbols. The term
"billion" (109 in America and 1012 in Europe) is ambiguous and should not be used.
Units: Use the international system of units (SI). Units should take a form such as Wm-2K-1 rather
than W/(m2K). The number of significant figures should correspond to the accuracy of measurements. If, as an exception, some
quantity is given in alternative units, the equivalent SI quantity shall be also provided. Back
to the contents list
Maths: Vectors and tensors should be
marked clearly on the manuscript. Equation numbers should appear in parenthesis and be numbered consecutively. All equation numbers
must appear on the right-hand side of the equation and should be referred to within the text. Use the following sequence of parentheses:
)]}.
References: References cited throughout the manuscript should be set
off in parentheses and formatted as such: author(s) last names, followed by publication year [e.g., "and experimental studies (Petersen,
2005; Petersen and Smith, 2006; Petersen et al., 2007)."]. For references that are mentioned as part of the text, only the publication
year should be enclosed within parentheses [e.g., "Ventilation was investigated by Petersen (2005), Petersen and Smith (2006), and Petersen
et al. (2007)."].
All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references following the text of the manuscript.
The reference list should be given in the following form: Apte, M.G., Fisk, W.J., Daisey, J.M., 2000. Associations between indoor
CO2 concentrations and sick building syndrome symptoms in U.S. office buildings: an analysis of the 1994-1996 BASE study data. Indoor
Air 10, 246-257. ASHRAE Standard 62-2001. Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality. ASHRAE, Atlanta, GA, USA, 2001. ASHRAE
Standard 55-2004. ASHRAE Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy. American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning
Engineers, Atlanta, GA, USA, 2004. Cheong, K.W.D., Djunaedy, E., Chua, Y.L., Tham, K.W., Sekhar, S.C., Wong, N.H., Ullah, M.B.,

Tables: Tables should be numbered consecutively and given suitable captions
and each table should begin on a new page. No vertical rules should be used. Tables should not duplicate results presented elsewhere
in the manuscript (for example, in graphs). Footnotes to tables should be typed below the table and should be referred to by superscript
lowercase letters. Back to the contents list
