Editorial Policy

The editors will be pleased to receive contributions from all parts of the world. Criterion for acceptance will be appropriateness to the field of the journal as described in the Aims and Scope, taking into account the merit of content and presentation. Receipt of all manuscripts will be acknowledged. Papers must be neither previously published nor submitted elsewhere simultaneously.

The Review Section editor assigns and solicits reviews.

Letters to the Editor should not exceed 400 words in length and may be: (a) comments or criticisms of articles recently published in the journal; (b) preliminary announcements of original work of importance warranting immediate publication.

All new and revised manuscripts must be submitted through the online submission and review Web site at http://ees.elsevier.com/lcats. Authors are requested to submit the text, tables, and artwork in electronic form (e.g., Word or RTF format) to this address in appropriate files (cover letter, reviewer recommendations, title page with author identifiers, manuscript without author identifiers, tables, figures, and author bios). In an accompanying letter, authors should state that the manuscript, or parts of it, have not been and will not be submitted elsewhere for publication. Submission items include a cover letter, the manuscript (including title page, abstract, manuscript text, references, tables, and figures). Revised manuscripts should also be accompanied by a unique file (separate from the covering letter) with responses to reviewers' comments.

Manuscript Requirements

1. Submission: All manuscripts must be word processed (double-spaced) and numbered consecutively, including references at the end and an abstract of no more than 100 words (highlighting the scope, methodology, and conclusions of the paper) at the beginning, concise, and complete in itself without reference to the body of the paper. Care should be taken to include up to five keywords suitable for indexing the article by computer analysis.

The author's full name, affiliation, and e-mail address should appear on the title page only. Headings and subheadings should be included to make the paper more readable. Standard United States spelling will be used throughout. All acronyms and abbreviations should be spelled out when first used in the text.

Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be asked to sign a ?Journal Publishing Agreement?? (for more information on this and copyright see http://www.elsevier.com/copyright). Acceptance of the agreement will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information. An e-mail (or letter) will be sent to the corresponding author confirming receipt of the manuscript together with a `Journal Publishing Agreement? form or a link to the online version of this agreement. If excerpts from other copyrighted works are included, the author(s) must obtain written permission from the copyright owners and credit the source(s) in the article. Elsevier has preprinted forms for use by authors in these cases: contact Elsevier?s Rights Department, Philadelphia, PA, USA: phone (+1) 215 239 3804, fax (+1) 215 239 3805, e-mail healthpermissions@elsevier.com. Requests may also be completed online via the Elsevier homepage (External link http://www.elsevier.com/locate/permissions). 2. Title page: Manuscripts should begin with the title of the article, the author's name, the complete address from which the communication comes, and the corresponding author's e-mail address. In the case of co-authors, respective addresses should be clearly indicated, as well as which author is to receive correspondence and proofs for corrections. The title should be concise and complete for easy indexing by abstracting services, and for the later use with other bibliographic elements in automatic indexing.

3. Text: Be sure that all reference are cited in numerical order in the text and that all tables and figures are cited in the text, numbered according to the order in which they appear. Data in tables and figures should be summarized, not duplicated, in the text. All data in the text should be checked against the corresponding data in the tables and figures for agreement.

4. Tables, figures and illustrations: Captions/legends should clearly identify all separate matter, and all illustrations and figures must be submitted as separate files. Each table, figure, illustration and photograph should be numbered in sequence using Arabic numerals in order of its mention. As a general rule, most figures for reproduction should be at least 8" by 10" in size. For more detailed instructions please visit our artwork instruction pages at External link http://www.elsevier.com/artworkinstructions. All tables, etc. should be gathered together at the end of the manuscript.

5. References: References should be quoted in the text by giving the author's name, followed by the year, e.g. (Hersen &Barlow, 1976) or Hersen and Barlow (1976).

For more than two authors, all names are given when first cited, but when subsequently referred to, the name of the first author is given followed by the words "et al." as for example-First citation: Nau, Caputo and Borkovec (1974) but subsequently, Nau et al. (1974).

References should be typed double-spaced at the end of the text. LCATS follows the 5th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. Authors are responsible for accuracy and completeness of references. Examples of the correct format are:

Article from a journal: Nisonger, T. E. (1998). The collection development literature of 1996: A bibliographic essay. Collection Building, 17 (1), 29-39.

Book: Marshall, J., Fisher, B., Moulton, L., & Piccoli, R. (1996). Competencies for special librarians of the 21st century. Washington, DC: Special Libraries Association.

Web sources: Pritzker, T. J. (June 8, 1995). An early fragment from central Nepal. Online. Ingress Communications. (N.D.) Retrieved from the World Wide Web: External link http://www.ingress.com/~astanart/pritzker/pritzker.html

Proofs and Publication

The lead author will receive page proofs for final inspection before publication. Corrections should be returned to the publisher promptly.

Twenty-five reprints of each paper will be provided to the first-named author free of charge. Additional reprints may be ordered directly from Elsevier.
