MORE INFORMATION, LESS SPACE: USE ELECTRONIC ANNEXES!

The International Journal of Multiphase Flow encourages its authors to submit electronic annexes and other supplementary information. The use of electronic annexes permits authors to convey in a concise manner their results without sacrificing full details of their work, which remain available in the electronic annex. Typical material suited to be communicated in this form includes validation tests, numerical or experimental details, algebra, error analyses, additional graphs and tables, movies and computer codes. All this material will be taken in consideration in the review process. Please refer to the Artwork Instructions (Multimedia files) at External link http://www.elsevier.com/artworkinstructions for details.

Short Overview

Submission of papers:

Online submission only: Please upload the full paper including graphics and all figures as graphics file separately at the online submission site of http://ees.elsevier.com/ijmf or click here for further information and to register.

The system automatically converts source files to a single Adobe Acrobat PDF version of the article, which is used in the peer-review process. Even though manuscript source files are converted to a single PDF at submission for the review process, the individual source files are needed for further processing after acceptance. All correspondence, including notification of the Editor's decision and requests for revision, takes place by e-mail and via the Author's homepage, removing the need for a hard-copy paper trail and shortening publication time. If you need any further help, please do not hesitate to contact our Author Support Department: authorsupport@elsevier.com

Submission language: English (Link to the Oxford English Dictionary External link http://dictionary.oed.com/entrance.dtl)

Authors in Japan kindly note that, upon request, Elsevier Japan will provide a list of people who can check and improve the English of an article before submission. Contact our Tokyo office: Elsevier Japan K.K., 1-9-15 Higashi Azabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo 106-044, Japan; Tel: 0081 3 5561 5032; Fax: 0081 3 5561 5045; e-mail: jp.info@elsevier.com

Types of contributions: Original research papers, reviews, short communications.

Corresponding author: Clearly indicate who is responsible for correspondence at all stages of refereeing and publication, including post-publication. Ensure that a telephone number (with country and area code) is provided in addition to the e-mail address and the complete postal address. Full postal and e-mail addresses must be given for all co-authors. Please consult a recent journal paper for style if possible.

Original material: Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously in a similar or substantially similar form (except in an academic thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same or substantially similar form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the Publisher. If the paper was previously submitted to another journal, please include a copy of the related correspondence with your submission.

Detailed instructions on manuscript preparation and artwork instructions can be found below. The editor reserves the right to return manuscripts that do not conform to the instructions for manuscript preparation and artwork instruction, as well as papers which do not fit the scope of the journal, prior to refereeing.

Manuscript Preparation:

General:
Editors reserve the right to adjust style to certain standards of uniformity. Please use Word, Word Perfect or LaTeX files for the text of your manuscript. (For further information about LaTeX submission, please go to External link http://www.elsevier.com/latex.)
Back to contents list

Structure:
Follow this order when typing manuscripts: Title (an abbreviated title of less than 40 characters [including spaces] should also be suggested), Authors, Affiliations, Abstract (not exceeding 200 words in length), up to 4 Keywords (papers without keywords will not be published), Main text (divided into numbered sections and subsections), Acknowledgements, Appendix, References, Figure Captions and then Tables. Collate acknowledgements in a separate section at the end of the article and do not include them on the title page, either as a footnote to the title or otherwise.
Back to the contents list

Text Layout:
Use double spacing and wide (3 cm) margins. Ensure that each new paragraph is clearly indicated. Present tables and figure legends on separate pages at the end of the manuscript. If possible, consult a recent issue of the journal to become familiar with layout and conventions. Number all pages consecutively, use 12 or 10 pt font size and standard fonts.

Corresponding author:
Clearly indicate who is responsible for correspondence at all stages of refereeing and publication, including post-publication. Ensure that a telephone number (with country and area code) is provided in addition to the e-mail address and the complete postal address. Full postal and e-mail addresses must be given for all co-authors. Please consult a recent journal paper for style if possible.
Back to the contents list

Abstract:
A self-contained abstract outlining in a single paragraph the aims, scope and conclusions of the paper must be supplied.
Back to the contents list

Keywords:
Immediately after the abstract, provide a maximum of four keywords (avoid, for example, 'and', 'of'). Be sparing with abbreviations: only abbreviations firmly established in the field may be used.
Back to the contents list

Symbols:
Authors should use accepted symbols. All symbols must be defined in the text and not in a separate nomenclature section.
Back to the contents list

Units:
Follow internationally accepted rules and conventions: use the international system of units (SI). If numerical values in other units are mentioned, give their equivalent in SI.
Back to the contents list

Maths:
Particular care should be exercised in identifying all symbols and in avoiding ambiguities. Distinction should be made between the number one (1) and the letter l and between zero (0) and the letter O. Vectors and tensors should be bold. Equation numbers should be consecutive and appear in parentheses at the right of the equation. Use the following sequence of parentheses: {[( )]}.

References:
In the list of references, all publications cited in the text should be presented in alphabetical order by first author as in the following examples:
Bonometti, T. and Magnaudet, J., 2007. An interface-capturing method for incompressible two-phase flows. Validation and application to bubble dynamics. Int. J. Multiphase Flow 33, 109-133.
Faghri, A. and Zhang, Y., 2006. Transport Phenomena in Multiphase Systems. Elsevier, Amsterdam.
Takamasa, T., Hazuku, T., Kobayashi, K., 1998. Measurements of the interfacial waves on a film flowing down plate wall in an entry region measured with laser focus displacement meters. Proc. 3rd Int. Conf. Multiphase Flow, CD-ROM, #453

Two or more papers with the same author(s) and year are labeled a, b, etc.

In the text, references should be referred to by name and year, e.g. "as shown by Esmaeeli and Tryggvason (2004)", or "it has been shown in previous work (Esmaeeli and Tryggvason 2004) that..." or "it is well known (see e.g. Esmaeeli and Tryggvason 2004) that ...".

Reference to papers with 3 authors should show all the authors at first occurrence, and the name of the first author followed by "et al." thereafter. Papers with more than 3 authors should use this form (first author followed by "et al.") from the start.

Tables:
Tables should be numbered consecutively and given suitable captions and each table should begin on a new page. No vertical rules should be used. Tables should not duplicate results presented elsewhere in the manuscript (for example, in graphs). Footnotes to tables should be typed below the table and should be referred to by superscript lowercase letters.
