Description
Transportation Research: Part A contains papers of general interest in all passenger and freight
transportation modes: policy analysis, formulation and evaluation; planning; interaction with the political, socioeconomic and physical
environment; design, management and evaluation of transportation systems. Topics are approached from any discipline or perspective: economics,
engineering, sociology, psychology, etc. Case studies, survey and expository papers are included, as are articles which contribute to
unification of the field, or to an understanding of the comparative aspects of different systems. Papers which assess the scope for technological
innovation within a social or political framework are also published. The journal is international, and places equal emphasis on the
problems of industrialized and non-industrialized regions.
Part A's aims and scope are complementary to Transportation
Research Part B: Methodological, Part C: Emerging Technologies and Part D: Transport and Environment. Part E: Logistics
and Transportation Review. Part F: Traffic Psychology and Behaviour. The complete set forms the most cohesive and comprehensive
reference of current research in transportation science.
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Deb Niemeier as Co-Editor
on Transportation Research: Part A (TRA). Dr Niemeier is currently Professor in the Dept of Civil and Environmental Engineering
and Director of the John Muir Institute at the University of California, Davis. Her research focuses on the theory and methods used for
modeling vehicle emissions at local and regional air quality scales. She also studies the project development process for major infrastructure
projects and the interactions between land use and travel behavior.
Dr Niemeier?s appointment as Co-Editor took effect on the
1st March 2007, and she will succeed Phil Goodwin as Editor of TRA on the 1st January 2008. During the transition period, Dr Niemeier
will handle all entirely new submissions, while Professor Goodwin will complete the handling of all manuscripts received prior to 1st
March.
Under Professor Goodwin?s editorship TRA has enjoyed dramatic increases in its already high readership as measured by
downloads of articles online, confirming its status as a flagship journal, not only within the Elsevier stable, but for the whole body
of transportation research literature. We look forward to its continuing success under the new editorial arrangements.
