Elsevier announces several Brain Research Award winners for 2010. Nicholas A. Bock from the McMaster University in Canada, was awarded the Brain Research New InvestigatorAward. Five papers won in the Most Cited Paper category, and the authors Claudia Lehmann, Stefanie Bette and Jürgen Engele were recognized with the Brain Research Best Cover Award – for the best cover published in 2009. The Scopus Awards in Mexico are given to eight scientists in Mexico, in the fields of health, technology, mathematics and astronomy. Elsevier, with the support of the Mexican National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT), also presented three special awards to science advocates in the academic, government and corporate sectors.

Elsevier and Ludwig-Maximilians Universitat (LMU) award junior researchers for their work in Neuro- and Molecular Biology. The four awards are given to two doctoral and two post-doctoral researchers who have made “a significant contribution to scientific knowledge” in their respective fields.

The Elsevier Foundation awards its 2010 New Scholars grant to the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSDW), enabling the organization to conduct a study that will benchmark the level of support, opportunities and participation of women across China, India, Brazil, Indonesia, South Africa, the United States and Europe.

Elsevier and LIBER (Association of European Research Libraries) announces the winners of the first annual LIBER Award for Library Innovation. This award is designed to recognize innovative work with the potential to impact the wider library community. The winners presented their papers during the June 2010 conference in Denmark, and their registration, travelling and accommodation expenses were covered by a grant provided by Elsevier.

The National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI)-Scopus Young Scientist Awards for 2009 were presented at the National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi. This award, given to scientists in emerging markets around the world, recognized the work of 10 scientists in six subject areas. This year’s winners are affiliated with India’s premier institutions, such as the Indian Institute of Science and the National Institute of Immunology.
